Finally the a2065 speaks

A few days ago I was sifting through the acre of debris at an industrial surplus dealer in Florida and found an old AUI-RJ45 transceiver. $1 later I decided to try and get that a2065 and a3000 talking after a decade of collecting dust, last I tried the 3000 wouldn't even detect it. I found a bent interrupt pin and seated the IC's and it came up. I downloaded the Networkbootdisk and it now responds to pings.

The SCSI drive is too small to install WB3.9, but I'd like to install an ip stack to hd. What works well for a stock a3000?

This interesting to me since I am studying for my Network+ cert. What function does the AUI-RJ45 transceiver add to the network with the 2065 Ethernet card? I looked at an image of one and it appeared to have a serial port on one side. It wasn't the best image though.

I think I have better understanding of why you need the AUI-RJ45 transceiver after looking at the a2065 card more closely. Am I correct you need this as an adapter for the standard RJ-45 female connector? It looks like the a2065 has a BNC type connector.

The A2065 has an old-style BNC connector and an old-style AUI connector. So you're right, the transceiver plugs into the AUI port and provides a standard modern RJ-45 port.

A stock 3000 should be fine for some basic networking. Roadshow is the only commercial solution currently available and it should work nicely on your setup. There's no GUI, though. AmiTCP v4 will be available again sometime soonish from AmigaKit. I use MiamiDX, which unfortunately can't be registered anymore. It's very easy to use (and the demo will probably suffice for your purposes) but it is the slowest of the Amiga TCP/IP stacks. Again, though, that may not matter for your purposes.

With 10BASE5 you had a cable from the network cable to your computer (think of it like a T piece in 10BASE2)

I also recommend using AmiTCP, there should be some old, free, version on Aminet. it doesn't take much space, iirc.
