WTB eject button for A3000 floppydrive
« on: January 15, 2014, 03:01:45 PM »
So, I was working on my 3000 the other day and when I was sliding the case back on, the floppy eject button sagged a bit and without realizing it, I broke all the support plastic off.

When I gathered all the parts up, I realized it had gotten very brittle and I was not not to be able to put it back together.

Anyone have one or know where I can find a new eject button?

Thanks,

Curtis

Think the deal with these was that you had to glue them on the drive. You might also want to paint it a different color to match the case.

About to order some myself soon to see how they work out :)

Yeah I ordered a few and hot glued one to a drive and thought it worked out pretty well.  The one I received had a pretty rough texture, but certainly better than nothing!

The FDD is the same as the one in the A500, but the button is a bit short; I've sanded the A500's button smooth for a clean glue job and the added a second button (from a non-working drive) cut and sanded (Dremel) glued to the first to make it reach and have the slanted shape.  It looks fine if you don't use a magnifier.

What I did for the short term was get a couple of itsy-bitsy, tiny screws and screwed them into the back of the button.

It works, but it's a bit off and doesn't really want to stay centered.

Will check out the website when I get home.  Tried it from work and the censors block it!

I thought the mechanism was the same as the 500, but wasn't sure if the button could be modded to fit the 3000.  May look into that method also.  For some weird reason I've got a couple of extra 500 buttons!  Have no clue where they came from!
