Big X-Files fan, are we?

Same house I've lived in for my entire life (minus about 2 years a while back when I moved out)

The X-Files stuff was all from my older brother, 15+ years ago. There is also a large "X-Files" logo on the wall behind the 286 motherboard in the top left, and a few other bits and pieces around, such as "trust no one"

So you inherited this neat little work area.
I like your toys.
Is that a hot air rework station I see in the pictures?

Nope, living with my parents while I save a house deposit ;)

Pace desoldering station, cheapo hot air rework/soldering station, and a Quick (brand) soldering station.

The hot air mainly just gets used for heatshrink ;) its cheap and nasty, but it gets the job done.

Yeah, about the only use I've put hot air to is repairing smt capacitors that come off boards.

I may have ordered an aca620 for this... wish me luck making it fit! I'm also revisiting the idea of fitting an internal dc-dc supply, with a few bits and pieces on their way from eBay.

I'm aiming for a power supply that's good for 5volts at about 5amps, and 12volts at 5amps, not because the a600 needs 12v at 5amps, but rather because I can steal 12volts out of the original power input jack to run an lcd screen ;)

The ACA620 is a cracking little card. It'll make your A600 fly comparatively :)

It might be, if it fits in the space I have! :hammer:

Will be nice to see you fit the ACA620 in that one ;) The ACA600 looks smaller then my Vampire 600 board at least so "should" fit under the optical drive ^^

Good luck, waiting for pics :)

I doubt an accelerator will fit in there but for your sake I hope I'm wrong. Why not use the underside of the drive to mount the CF?

If it was up to me I'd probably skip the internal ODD for other internal components but if I had to, I'd mount a slotin drive to the side instead... would give more room for the accelerator and a more "natural way" of inserting media into the machine.

Remove the ROM socket and mount it directly to the board?  Might give you an extra mm or two in that area.  ;)

Its the clearance between the accelerator and cd drive that may be an issue, namely above the 68000 cpu.

The plcc sockets appear to measure 8.1mm, plus a 1.6mm pcb. I can always trim the pins flat to the board ;)

So, do I have 10mm of clearance between the motherboard and cd drive... I dunno, I'll worry about that when it doesn't fit! I have a file and I'm not afraid to make the cd drive housing smaller! xD

Are you absolutely sure that your dvd drive isn't shorting on your 68000 adapter pins? Looks like it is to me...DON'T POWER IT ON UNTIL YOU'RE SURE! :(

Better to insulate and play it safe (if not already done so).

I know its not shorting, because I cut the pins off, and there's two layers of kapton tape over the board ;)

I need to modify the ide cable now, as obviously it won't fit where it used to run...
