Amigas I miss!
« on: January 06, 2014, 10:33:07 PM »
Well it really hits me sometimes when I miss the Amigas and Amiga stuff I sold. For examples Amiga 1200 with Blizzard 1260 and SCSI-2 controller.  DPS Personal Animation Recorder, Opalvision. At least I still have my A2000 the very first Amiga I bought from the original owner. I will put it in my will to bury me with it.
Does anyone else have regrets of selling Amiga hardware/ software etc.?

I picked up an Amiga 3000T for $50 while stationed in Hawaii.

Shipped it with me for a couple of duty stations, and finally sold it for a couple of hundred and started kicking myself as soon as the buyer drove off.

Dumb decision...

I sold my first A3000 which was my third Amiga to buy a Xbox. I loved that machine and really do miss it. I've replaced it but the one I have now isn't the same. I had a choice to sell my A2000 or the A3000. I kept the A2000 for two reasons. It was technically faster than the A3000 (Fusion 40 28Mhz installed in the A2000) and it was my first Amiga.

My runner up regret was selling my CD32 w/ SX-1 and FMV card. Had lots of fun with that setup.

One a non-amiga regret note I threw out a SX-64 in a move when I lived in NYC. I just had no space left. That one also still pains me today.

I never left either.  The grass was never greener on another platform, and I think I've tried 'em all.  Other platforms are certainly useful, but none capture my imagination.  They are screwdrivers.

Replaced my used A500, bare bones and got an A2000. sold the A500, no regrets. Still have that A2000 greatly expanded and an A4000t fully expanded, no sale and no way, would take a lot to get me to sell.

I have nothing expensive I regret selling, the only thing I regret selling was my very first Amiga, it was the A500 but I was kinda young when I  bought it so for me it was a lot of money and I saved for quite some time to buy it.

I regret selling that machine because it was my first one and she did stick with me for maybe 10 years before I sold it, I still have the picture I used when selling it, she was so white and in super good shape :(

I miss it so much :(

Edit: I did keep a lot of floppies and a few original games like James Pond 2: robocod and still have :)

Back when cash flow was tight I always regretted selling one thing to help buy another. I did that with my C64 to get an A500 in the '80s. Whilst I did that through the '90s with some of my Macs, I never was in the position to need to sell my Amiga computers. I did repurchase a C64 later on to alleviate the guilt I felt.

I Frankensteined my original A1200 from 1993 until it was unrecognisable (tower w/ BlizzardPPC and Bvision + SCSI II and a bunch of other extenders) until one day in 2002 something blew. It had a good run. I don't regret selling the Bvision, that was the buggiest RTG card ever made, but I do regret selling the BlizzardPPC, because more than a decade after I originally purchased it they finally released AmigaOS 4 for Classic. I really can't justify buying it again with some of the prices people are asking for on Ebay.

I still have a couple of A1200s and my CD32 with SX1. I am never selling those. Even if I end up being homeless and I am living under a bridge. My...precious.

I sold my first A500 (with red light) just to buy an A2000 which I never expand it :-(
Then I sold the A2000 to buy an A1200.
I regret selling my first piece and A2000 too but at least I could take back the second.
When I asked after o month from the girl I sold it, sho told me that it was boring and gave it to her friend in Russia.

After that I never sold a thing and that's why my closet is full of Amigas now.
(and other stuff not so serious ;-)

I sold my entire Amiga and Commodore collections (A600s, C64s, C128s, CD32, A1200s, expanded ones, A1200 Towers, A4000, SAM systems, magazines, CDs, floppies, books, peripherals etc...) to finance my projects...I'll get them all back one day... :D

I sold most of my Amiga and Commodore collection, however something told me back in ~2009 to make sure that I keep at least a few toys unsold, just in case I get a bug and decide to rebuild again.

It was a good strategy. The remaining expanded A1200D that I have, serves as a reminder that if I start buying stuff again, the new items will ultimately just end up boxed/packed away too, just like the A1200D now is. ;-)

Joking aside, I think I've learned to live with one usable/expanded/fun Amiga which is perfect for those nostalgic moments, when trying out the OS, playing games, fiddling with stuff, etc.

Just Amigas?
My God, there is SO much more I regret selling or giving away.
I was given a old MPM system that the original owner asked be return for fear that it still might have private info on it.
That is one example amongst dozens.

Hmmm...

The only Amiga Item I got rid of that I regret very slightly was the 3000T.  She was a beasty, and a beauty...  Honestly the 3000D is a better fit for my needs, but the tower was rare, with a great build quality, and was the heaviest computer I have ever owned...

Still use my A3000 I bought new in the early 90's.  Best darn Amiga ever made, sadly 95% of them have battery damage.

Have my first 500, dead in a box.

I try not too get attached, I generally try a system and get rid of it if my kids or I don't use it.
