Google emulates 1980s-era Amiga computer in Chrome
« on: December 12, 2013, 04:14:56 PM »
News from CNET

Google's Portable Native Client technology gives a new Web-based lease on life for an old operating system and the games it could run. The Amiga 500 lives again -- in Google's browser. Google developer Christian Stefansen on Thursday resurrected a version of the venerable computer system from the 1980s in the form of a Web app that runs in Chrome. Forty-year-olds who want to relive their childhoods or younger people who want to see just how hard their elders had it can visit the Amiga 500 emulator for Chrome online, boot the machine, and play some games.

Doesn't do anything on my fully up to date Chrome browser, just a black square.....typical Windows experience LOL

(All the buttons are greyed out and can't be clicked)

That's really really cool...

...though I'm still not going to download and install Chrome. :)

No no no, stop flipping out, all they want is your soul, first born, and a blood sacrifice of some sort, usually in relation to a virgin...

...which they insist must be found in Miami beach Florida. Good luck on that one.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Google bull%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@! stance on needing to purchase something from Cloanto to use it when nobody can even prove their agreement is even legal (because Amiga Inc may well not even own the IP/Copyrights on Kickstart ROMS)

So the only negative thing I have to say is....Google are pussies for not finally forcing someone to prove in legal framework who owns Kickstart once and for all by including it in their source code as a free and unlimited Amiga emulator :)

Who says that this documentation was not provided (no "forcing" needed)?

I just tried playing Lemmings and Dark Castle on it. Both played smoothly without any issues. I'm still waiting for SAE to play one of the preselected games that come with it...

A nice technical achievement, but I think I'll stick to WinUAE. :)

Indeed, and I'll stick to my A1200 (no offense to emu users :)).

Amiga in a browser? Blasphemy.

This works great under MorphOS with Odyssey Web Browser 3.26 with Chrome extentions.
