What "can be" this A500 expansion card
« on: December 08, 2013, 01:07:55 AM »
Hello.
I (finally) decided it was time to let part of the collection go.
I'll start with an A500 (complete with mouse, power supply and a 1084 (including the RGB monitor).
As the disk drive is not working anymore, I can't check what exactly this expansion is. Looks like an A501 (clock + memory).

My question is, can it be something else? If so, how can I check without booting the Amiga?

Rgds,

Looks like an A501 or clone.  Pull the shield off and see.  Might want to do that anyway to check for battery leakage!

the shield looks like to be soldered...
But, can it be something better than a 512k expansion + clock?

I just took an A501 out of one of my Miggies and peered inside by prying open the one unsoldered corner as much as I dared. What I see in there is a fairly furry battery that needs to be taken out right about yesterday! I concur with Oldsmobile_Mike, you really should crack yours open.

EDIT: This little weasel went pop!

Ew. Not a moment too soon.

Also, I spent a good fifteen minutes looking for my soldering iron which I didn't find - I found another one instead, a new one in an unopened box, bought a decade or so ago. I'm a terrible housekeeper...
