My Amiga 500 power supply died.....
« on: November 13, 2013, 04:56:46 AM »
I was waiting for weeks and weeks until I received my disk drive eject button because it got broken in during the shipment when I ordered it online. As soon as I opened the Amiga, removed the disk drive and fixed the eject button and put everything back to normal....the power supply died. It started making a buzzing noise and the Amiga refused to boot completely. Then when I turned the power supply on by itself...it too made a very loud buzzing sound....and no matter what I do the Amiga have no power input and it just a buzzing sound.........

I threw the power supply into the garbage (as I was busy making my first game on Blitz Basic)....now what I am looking for if someone have a spare power supply (working correctly) for the Amiga 500 and it is 110 Volt.

Don't throw it away!  (1) - it might be fixable, and (2) - you could possibly still use the housing or the square wiring lead to build a new power supply (plenty of people have installed mini AT and ATX-style PSU's inside the A500's original housing).

As mike said, open it up and see if you can fix it, else put a small ATX PSU inside it.
I have an ATX PSU inside a A500 power brick case:

Hehe ;) Sadly Underground-gamer died some months back so all pictures are dead in my old thread and I don't have the option to edit the post anymore to re-upload them :(

I've gotten into the habit of saving a copy of any interesting Amiga-related hardware hack pics I come across, for that very same reason.  You never know when the thread or links will be gone.  *sigh*  Some things on the Internet don't last forever!  :(

That's really good, I have a habit of only bookmarking and as you say some things just disappear so I should also start saving down pictures for the future :) I find myself looking for things Amiga related that are gone quite often :/ Plenty of good places on the internet is gone forever that I miss :(

Sadly there is no way to make a mATX 500W dual voltage PSU bought off eBay for $24 to connect to an A500/600/1200 by buying a connector from A4000T.com or using an old connector cord from a dead A500 PSU, and a $2 on-off switch from RadioShack :(

Really...all of this MacGyver work is not for me!

A) I will electricute myself and get killed ones I open the dead power supply you wait and see.

B) If I manage to survive from that...expect an explosion

C) If I manage to survive from that...expect a fire or maybe an explosion plus a fire

E) If I manage to survive from that...expect a fire or maybe an explosion plus a fire...plus frying my Amiga 500

F) If I manage to survive from that...expect a fire or maybe an explosion plus a fire...plus frying my Amiga 500 plus burning my house all down

So really all what is left is me order it from eBay which I did find and ordered it.

I am not so sure what that is plus I am not so sure I want to plug that into the wall especially when my hand is still touching the cable!!! If I ever see this around I will hold it with a very long wooden stick...place it very far away from me and burn it!

Anyone know any place to get hold of the Amiga power connector, if I could get hold of them I could make cheap ATX to Amiga adaptors with a power switch and give to Amiga users who need em for shipping cost :)

Id love to have broken empty Amiga power-brick cases to make tons of ATX-psu convertions but scouting for broken ones would take to much time :/

Sadly, no.  You can't find them under DIN 5-pin Square on Mech's A4000T.com web site sold singularly or in packs of five :(

But the world spins on...
