My Amiga 1200 published in IDG's TechWorld.
« on: November 08, 2013, 12:04:02 PM »
Well I was not planning on posting this due to the writer didn't write as correct and technical as I wanted and also I do not like to share my name and my picture online since I do not want to share my age etc.

But I thought what the hell... All publicity the Amiga gets is good, I got quite a few mails after that publish with people seeking help where to start to getting new life in their Amigas.

A writer for TechWorld contacted me after seeing some pictures of my Amiga 1200 online and insisted that he wanted to make an article about it, at first I didn't want to since my Amiga isn't that special, but as he explained the majority of readers have lived trough the Amiga era and would find it interesting to read about it and get nostalgic.

As the article is written on the retro pages of TechWorld it's kept simple and readable, it got quite good response when published December 2012.

I did a rough translation from Swedish to English, not perfect but I hope readable. Both versions will be linked here.

Here are the original scanned pages in Swedish.

Here is it roughly translated to English.

Don't be to harsh, it's not directed to hardcore Amiga users.

Thanks for your kind words! I am working to get people hooked on Amiga every chance I get, got a friend who I am scouting for a A1200 for right now and help him get started :)
Most people tend to be into the games tho, so I find myself copying games for unexpanded A500's a lot and ship em all over Sweden ;)

It's just a 4xEIDE'99, but im planning on trying to fit a FastATA as soon as possible, I got a bit to many projects in the air at once (even outside Amiga land), but first im completing my external CD/DVD and Harddrive combo build (of course ill post pictures here on Amiga.org):)

Just found a guy willing to airbrush my A1200 for a fair price, he is good and have the feel for retro look.

If you got a prism2 compatible wifi card I could hook you up with my configs to get it working.

Great article!  I saw one of your pictures before and was wondering how good a ground you're getting through the hard drive cradle.  Isn't it just sort of resting in there?  Oh well, I guess if it's good enough, right?  :drink:

Thanks! There is a plastic film between the shield and the motherboard, I made a hole in the film at the HDD cradle to give it contact to the RF shield that has a seperate ground to the PSU and measured ground resistance, it is enough :)

You can never have too many "A" keys...

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

These cards would work:
Allied Telesyn AT-WCL452 O6M-WE300
Artem CC-PC-b-H2-STD
Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11(g)
Compaq WL110
Speedtouch 110(g)
Lucent Tech Orinoco Bronze
Lucent Tech Orinoco Gold
Lucent Tech Orinoco Silver
Lucent Tech Orinoco WaveLAN/IEEE 802.11(b)
Netgear MA401
Microsoft MN520
SMC SMC2632W LLM002SMC2632W
Unex NexAir MR011-001

I myself use the Orinoco Silver and it works great. The Orinoco cards are quite common on ebay for a few bucks :) Can't recommend another since ive only used Orinoco cards :)

If/when you get a card, ill be happy to help you configuring it :)

You have three "A" keys on your keyboard :)
Not counting the "Amiga" keys...
Glory to the loud-mouthed Scotsman !
