Anyone has experience with Amiwest?

I see the banner here on the site, and since I am not that far from Sacramento, I was wondering if anyone can tell me more about this gathering called Amiwest.

I've browsed the site, but other than knowing that it is a gathering for Amiga users, and other than knowing that there is a dinner, for which you need to reserve a spot, I didn't got exactly what happens there

Is a sort of gathering where people sell stuff? There are some sort of panels/talks?

I saw that Amikit will be there, and I may buy some stuff if they have inventory available there , or if there are other fellow Miggy users that sell their stuff I may stop by for a hour or so if it is the case, otherwise I guess that I will have to save the trip for next time.

Can anyone tell me what is all about? Thanks!

I went last year and represented AROS.  It is an Amiga convention.  There are booths of people representing different aspects of Amiga.  Of course the sponsors get the centrally located ones but that's to be expected.  The people that attend the dinner get to see panel discussions and keynote speakers.

If you're into Amigas of any sort, particularly next-generation OS 4 models, you'll have fun at Amiwest.  It's worth the drive and the entrance fee if you're close by.

Sacramento Amiga Computer Club (SACC) has had 16 years of running AmiWest!
Yes, this is year 16! We have all the classics, we have all the next gen.
AmigaKit has a table and sells great stuff! (Last year I got a amiga keyboard!)
We have sponsers like A-Eon makers of the X-1000, We have the SACC table...
mostly used amiga for a fund raiser. We have A banquet, where we award people
who do good things for the amiga!

I am into old stuff...to me Amiga means 68K, so I never got into the PPC phase, and I am not even sure what is considered today an Amiga I left the scene when Commodore died and Escom and Gateway started the dance with the license.

It sounds like a fun place to be I may show up to take a look maybe; South bay is just 3-4 hours from Sac; but most likely I will come next year.

Agreed.  Amiga is 68K to me as well.  I'm far more interested in 68K related projects (Natami, FPGA Replay) than anything PPC or next gen.  I would like to see the 68K Amiga advance, but certainly not in the way it has.

I'd be interested in attending AmiWest but it's a cross-country flight for me and right around my youngest's birthday so it just hasn't worked out yet.

btw. there is another upgrade path at hand. its free, its open souce and you can keep your genuine amiga soft and hardware. its called aros68k. beware, its still in experimental stage, but the more devs and the more interest there is the better it will become.

Im sure if you are an amiga fan you will have fun at Amiwest. Its not the big of a ashow more like a big UGN meeting but whats really fun isnt so much the showfloor but the parties at night in the rooms and stuff. (like all amiga cons actually lol)

I have heard of Aros, but I thought that was a linux distro with a UAE emulator to mimic the real AmigaOS; if it run on 68K I would love to try it

BTW I am not stuck on 68K and refuse to look somewhere else I just prefer to remember it in that way, because for me, at that time, 3.0 was the best that you can ever run on a computer

Where I can get the source for the 68K aros? and how do you build for Amiga? My only Amiga experience was on argasm many decades ago, and a bit of Lattice C Never did cross platform development, since the only computer for me was the Miggy

Altho I would love something where you learn stuff about the old architecture CLI, programming, mods and such

auweia! seems to be a frequent misconception. aros68k not only runs on 68k, it runs many genuine amiga programs, and the goal is to run almost all of them. alas its still in experimental stage and can be pita depending on your hardware setting, dont let you disencourage if it doesnt fulfill your expectations at this time, its being worked on.

personally when it comes to amiga im almost stuck with it. im not even much into aros x86, given up on os4 and never got to actually try morphos, but this is everyones personal thing i guess.
