Localization of software for ex-Yugoslavia

As far as I understand, there are no more ATO teams.

I like that  WB 4.1 can be in Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian (haven`t checked Slovenian and  Macedonian) but I am not much satisfied with some of translations, and  some are not done at all. That is just WB, and apps are different story.

One  by one would work for free for translating ANY existing OS4 software to  Serbian, if some nice people from Croatia and Bosnia (or of any  Yugoslav origin) join the cause, easily all those "translations" could  be done, back and forth, them taking something else to translate.

Good localization impress people, even English is global today.

For paid AmigaOS 4 comaptibile software would do translations for license/ key etc.

Is there a CAT editor, or standardized way to do this?

Running joke I do while I play with big monolith box and boing ball toy,  is that Hyperion and A-EON and Acube could not only join PowerPC  consortium, but get some good deal for some hundreds boards for Croatian  gouverment, since Boing Ball Check Boards strongly resembles Croatian  national symbols, wrapped in ball

A  2000 kunas (300 euros) MiniCroatianAmiga with OS 4.2 and beyond, Libre  and TW could be attractive thing, if properly localized or kiosked, like  A1200 used to do in the end

For  Amiga related stuff check who did Capital Punishment, Myst port,  Chariot, APDF in OS 4.1 ... we used to have users in region ... even  there were dark times. Aminet had a lot of localizations to Bosnian,  Serian, Croatian ...

I was a member at ATO for a short period and translated some stuff into slovenian language. Some little programs and a little bit for OS 3.9 if I remember right - but I am not 100 % sure anymore - must dig in my old work to find out.
For me the process (programs/tools) were somehow complicated but if you really are interested I can begin digging out some info on that. But you for sure will get better info if you participate or ask an AmigaOS betatester or you ask some of the "former" ATO team leaders if there are any left.

It doesn`t have to be ATO software as it was: if there are new tools or standards, let use them.

No, no that was not special software of ATO. But you are right, probably there is something better now - I think your question is well adressed now.

I too was ATO member and OS4 betatester.
I did translations for some OS4.x components and iBrowse. Our ATO BiH coordinator oversaw translation activities and did proofreading and translations himself. The latest cd and ct files were provided to us by OS4 localization coordinator.
Cannot remember the exact tools we used (flaxcat, catcomp) - I could check my notes.

I am interested in helping, but I believe any coordination/sharing would have to be agreed at some higher ATO levels (at least for OS4.x). Also, I think you have to be running OS4 to be able to test the translations, and I am not sure how many OS4 users we have in this region?

For other pieces of software, I believe you can contact the developer directly.

Thanks, you are first. Step by step, one by one. AmigaOS translaton is solid, so its improvement can be last. OS components and additional software are target. Lets say YAM and Timberwolf. There is standard translation for Firefox that can be adopted.

I can do it even in TXT or anything CED can edit.

In Belgrade, there are DJ Nick and me. In Croatia, there is Voodo. Hoewer, some people in diaspora like Kicko speak Croatian.

VOX, I assume by your interest that you intend to stick with OS4.1 (even after your disappointment with your initial system).
And that, from your other posts here and elsewhere, you are also interested in MorphOS and AROS.

If you can encourage software localization for the region that was formerly Yugoslavia, so will have performed a service for the people of that area.
