Amiga 1200 1D4 vs 1D1?

Hi all I curious as to what is the difference between these boards is one better then the other? The reason I ask is because I have both so if one is better than the other then I will use that board

1D1 is better if you want to add an accelerator card as 1D1 boards don't require any motherboard timing fixes, whereas 1D4 boards do.

That's not always true. Jen said there isn't a "better" mobo, or one you are sure it won't need timing fixes.

But in fact I've got 3 1D1's working without any timing fix.

use the 1D4 ...in fact the best mobos are 2b or 1D4 despite what stupidity on forum says on timing fixes
I had a rev 1D1 and I sold because some A500 games not worked there but worked fine on a rev 2B

Yep Retrofan's correct, they are all different (eg one ID4 might be different to another ID4).

Anyway I've got a super rare ID3 which is the best one to have

This fix is quite a few years old. To my knowledge, it was first documented by Eyetech and reported back to ACT, where I did service on those oh-so-flaky Apollo accelerators. I was expecting that by now, every A1200 motherboard has the fix applied. I only have one board where the caps are installed, and it's one where the ACA1230 works perfectly. That's a good indicator that there really is a chipset combination where the components E123C and E125C are required."

I used an amiga technologies a1200 with my phase iv 50mhz 68030 for years with no problems. IIRC I had to do the graphics fix for it though http://aminet.net/package/docs/hard/flickerfix
 
It might be that the 030 board I had was tolerant or maybe I did the timing fix, but I don't think I did.

ACA's are funny old things, even my ID3 had 'timing issues' with my ACA 1230 56Mhz.

I have a  1D4 board works flawless with blizzard 1260 and indy mk2.

The only reason you would need these "timing fixes" is if you are running aca boards. I've had many diff a1200s with many diff accelerators and never needed these "timing fixes" And yes i keep putting them in quotes because its kind of funny to me.

Timing fix...biming shmix. I have played with many A1200's and many A1200 accelerators and never worried about any timing fixes at all. That's not to say they weren't done to any A1200's I've played with, or that it never needs to be done - just that I never had to worry about it.

I've never had to do any timing fixes on the 1D4, for what it's worth, and I've used it with a microbotics/030 accel, Apollo '040, Blizzard '060/PPC.

I am not sure, is it simply because of the high(er) clock rate of the ACA boards beyond 50mhz, or some other reason lost on me?

My advise is to try your accelerator card into both motherboards and see which one (if any) give you problems. What card do you intend to put in it?

I had to do the timing fix on a 2B board last year because it didn't work reliably with my new ACA1232/33. I didn't do the fix first without testing - only an idiot would do that... I confirmed there was an issue first, and then I did the fix (simply remove 2 capacitors from rear of motherboard). Rather unsuprisingly, it fixed it.

I have a 1D3 as well, so not that rare...

As for the best revision - it has to be the 1A. Never heard a bad word said about it. Mine is still running strong as well - despite lots of abuse over the years.
