ClassicWB Full Error: ToolsDaemon could'nt find Workbench window!
« on: September 25, 2013, 07:52:13 PM »
Hi all.

I have just (almost) succesfully installed ClassicWB Full but I have a problem!

When booting my Amiga I get this error:

ToolsDaemon 2.1a:
Could'nt find Workbench window!

My only button option is "Abort". When clicked the Amiga goes to the "standard black/red screen of death" and writes:

"Software failure. Press left mouse button to continue. Error: 8100 0005 Tak:401F2660".

When left mouse button is pressed the Amiga reboots and the whole cycle repeats again and again.

Can someone please help or guide me to some helpful instructions?

All best
Anders, Copenhagen.

Reset your Amiga with CTRL-AA or power off at wall and back on again....but hold down both mouse buttons before it starts to boot. This should take you to the "Amiga Early Startup Control" screen or similar. Select the option "Boot With No Startup-Sequence".
It will then take you to the CLI screen. Type "loadwb" followed by return and press CANCEL on any requesters which may appear.
Then go into the System drive and locate the WBStartup drawer and have a look inside. ToolsDaemon will be in there. Any program dragged into this drawer will load up as soon as the Workbench desktop appears after booting. What I would do here is create a drawer called "move back" and drag the ToolsDaemon icon into it....this will mean that ToolsDaemon will not start at next boot but you can load it manually and fault find on it until you figure out why it's not working for you....after which just drag it back into WBStartup again.

If the above doesn't work (ToolsDaemon still crashes after you type loadwb) then just boot from your Workbench floppy instead and access your System drive from there (move ToolsDaemon out of the WBStartup drawer).

I believe you can also access the CLI screen/ DOS prompt if you boot whilst holding down the left mouse button on a ClassicWB setup.... this would be a different way to disable the Startup-Sequence than holding both mouse buttons down at startup. ;)

PAUL! You're a life saviour! Thanks a lot for the good advice, which works very nice indeed. It is my ToolsDaemon that's gone bad for some reason (when I try to open it, the same error message comes back). So I need to fint out, why ToolsDaemon misbehave like that. Perhaps there's a patch or something on Aminet?

Anyhow, thanks for the kind guide.
