Installing ClassicWB without WinUAE?
« on: September 22, 2013, 09:24:02 PM »
Hi all.

I have some difficulties getting ClassicWB to work  proberly. My issue is, that I do not have a possibility to install  WinUAE because the only Windows machine I have access to is my workplace  computer and my personal profile prohibits me from installing any new  software

Hence,  I cannot get my hands on the system.zip, which I need to create in  WinUAE from the system.hdf file that comes with ClassicWB 68K. Veeeery  frustrating.

So my question is: Is there any other way to create this system.zip?

I have workbench 3.1. installed on my Amiga 600 and I have all the original install floppys etc.

Also  created a ClassicWB 68K "Real Amiga Install" boot floppy disk, from the  ADF provided. So all seems to be ready-set-go for me, exept for that  darned system.zip file, which I just cannot create myself

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Anders, Copenhagen.

You can download the "zip-archive" of Winuae instead of the installer.
Then, you simply unzip the archive somewhere in your hard drive and you can run Winuae from there.
I think this way you can bypass the administrative restrictions in your workplace computer because there is no need to install anything.
It's just like unzipping a zip file and then double clicking on one of its files.

You could try this method:

http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?t=33122

NICE! Was able to install ADF Opus to my external HD and bypass the restrictions on my workplace computer

BUT! How do I unpack the HDF file? I can see it in ADF Opus if I use "open directory" and I can make and ADF from the files and other stuff - but I cannot seem to figure out, how to simply unpack all the files (to the desktop for example).

I simply want to unpack the HDF file, so that I can make a System.zip using Winzip. Can anyone help with good advice?

Anders, Copenhagen.

Hi Anders, if you want I can upload the System.zip of your choice (of course you will need to activate with real Workbench Disks on your Amiga)

Bloodwych of EAB also can do this for users that do not have access to UAE for the installation :)

Hi Fitzsteve!

That would just be the absolute greatest of help!!! :-D :-D Thank you SO MUCH!

I have a Amiga 600, 3.1 ROM, 2 MB Ram, 20 GB HD (old iPod HD) and a ACA630/30 Stealth Accelerator card.

I wanted to install the ClassicWB 68K, but given the expansion that my A600 has, would you rather suggest the ClassicWB Lite or is that installation only made for A1200 machines?

Looking very much forward to hearing from you again - and hopefully finally finally finally be able to install ClassicWB ;-)

Anders, Copenhagen.

PS: And yes, I do have the original 3.1. Workbench install disk(s). :-)

Hi Anders, the lite pack will work just fine with the copper background disabled :)

With the ACA630 you can even run the OS3.9 version!

This version does need to be setup on UAE though and you need the OS3.9 CD or ISO so it's a little more complicated.

Drop me a PM and I'll sort you out the download link to the Full or Lite pack's System.zip (depending on if you want Scalos/IGame or not)

You could also opt for the ADV/AD SP packs if you have a Monitor that can display the interlaced screen modes but like Full & 3.9 these are a bit more resource hungry!

You can download the "zip-archive" of Winuae instead of the installer.

While accurate, I'd advise against that personally,,,
If your system administrators don't want you installing software, they probably don't want you manually installing software either...

And is it worth possibly risking a job?

(I realize you weren't saying he SHOULD do that, just listing it as a technical possibility)
