A2K keyboard for A500
« on: September 01, 2013, 04:42:10 PM »
I was wondering if the keyboard of an A2K could be used inside an A500?

I was thinking about transferring the circuit board from a ratty 500 keyboard to a better A2K spare I've got.

The reason is, I've discovered almost all of my 500 keyboards have issues and surprisingly enough, they're all different manufactures and use slightly different mechanisms so I can just swap keycaps!

You can connect an A2000 keyboard directly to the 500's connector with a simple adapter.

It doesn't provide a separate reset signal however, so Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga won't work any more - for that you can either leave the reset line to the original keyboard attached or add a reset switch to the adapter. Alternatively, you can also remodel the reset circuitry from the 2/3/4000, of course.

What I'm wanting to do is use the electronics from an A500 keyboard and the mechanical parts and array from an A2K so it will still have the reset, LED's, AND fit in the A500 case.

IMHO you should try to find a replacement A500 keyboard before destroying one for an A2000.  A quick check on ebay shows A500 keyboards starting at $10, and replacement keycaps, springs, membranes, controllers, etc., starting at $3.

Well, to answer my own question, no, it cannot be done.

The circuit  board on the A2K keyboard is one big piece with the rest of the keyboard.  In other words, the control circuitry cannot be pulled.

Guess I'll check fleabay.
