new amiga-project update 1
« on: February 06, 2004, 01:21:33 AM »

Update on: Amiga-project:
-------------------------

Why cant people really undestand, that this is a project aiming at our Amiga community.

I wish it to grow and "some" goes as far as spreading false rumours about our projects.

Our Amiga Project, will be the leading project, following by Opera. Its aim is to build a new Amiga tougether with those wich wants to help out. Yes, this new Amiga will be created, designed and formed by us. It will just take some time to create a team and a place to discuss this. It will also take time to create a prototype.

A Q&A section will apear this weekend on our website. Giving rumour spreaders something to think about. I am not letting rumour spreaders destroying this project at all.

Update on Opera project:
-----------------------
This project is now going on again. A bit delayed because of fever and such. Next week, amigaworld.org will give you updates. What it is, we cannot say, but we hope that you will like it.

Regards,
Michal, www.amigaworld.org

I'm all for a new Amiga project as long as its not just another clone to run OS3.9 on. I think its time to move on to new and bigger things. If your projects goal is to get Os4.X and even MOS to run on the hardware then thats a totaly diffrent matter. I think that SHOULD be your goal in this. Once OS4 comes out I dont think many people will care much about 3.9 machines.

@Acill

Youre welcome to join this team. You've been a helper for creating good articles for Amitopia and more. I will get in PM with you later on.

This new Amiga's aim is to be created by the community. Many, and I know many dont like what Amiga INC or Pegasos does. But they simply dont want to be talked about and screamed to.

ESCOM had great Amiga plans, with AmigaPPC as the next generation Amigas. This new Amiga will give programers what they want, it will give Amigans wich loved Amiga back then also a alternative.

Many knows that Amiga was the entertainer nr.1 in early 90's. Its also now, but more and more games uses more and more complicated Joysticks. I dont say its bad, but most was really happy with what ZipStick offered and more.

This new Amiga will not have any Catweasel or any external card for Amiga Joysticks or mouse. It will have USB also though, for people wich wants to use "todays" mouse and other goodies thru PoseidonUSB stack. Yes, this project aims at AmigaOS 4 or MorphOS.

Project update #2 - 06.02.2004:
-------------------------------

Now at the moment, this project is forming a team:
- hardware designers
- people with contacts
- amiga promotional people

Our goal:
- create "mordern" Amiga keyboard (USA, UK, German and Norwegian atm) for USB
- getting ZipStick back in production (small amount that is. Depends on how many is interested)
- crating a new Amiga in the end. Getting hardware designers tougether (the specs is now choosen)

All updates will be found on: http://www.amigaworld.org

All parts of the project might not be done, but then atleast. Its been tried and we will go as many steps before giving up.

Have a nice weekend!

Michal, www.amigaworld.org

What about AROS? if it's a community designed and built Computer... then it makes sense to use a Community designed and built OS?

There will be an update soon :-)

Michal has just finished work on our new PCI sub system, it's being debugged as we speak, and Nic has got the CPU detection routines working (with an dea to getting Multiple CPU support working).

Hi,

The ZipStick. :-) Got one at home. The joysticks were always great. When I tried another system the first thing I noticed is the crappy joysticks.

I have a small remark on some earlier sayings. There was said that "negative" comments will not be taking serious. I think we are talking about "trolling" and such, right? I mean of someone said that it is not wise to go that way and provide the info why, it's taken into the project. Ofcourse I am talking about "good" critisism. I just saw a lot of postings that said any slighty negative words will not be taken serious.

Anyway, I like the project. I like any attempt to do such thing. Same goes for Downix, he is doing some hardware thingies himself. Oli, and everyone else who is doing such things. I admire that. That's what it's all about. :-)

Its a nice one. But its not our main priority to do so right now, but if there is more people out there wanting it. It could be a possibility.

Your idea is not deleted at all. Maybe some of the projects hardware designers is interested in it. Who knows.

How will AROS support modern graphic cards like radeon etc etc? Will there be a special graphic.library that takes advantage of them? for enhancing gui and stuff

@AmiDelf

Slaaging down critics just isn't a wise idea, aslong as you haven't got a bit
more specific (which is IMO the biggest point of critic ATM).

1. Who is actually gone make this (and announcing it before you got that cleared
would make it look like just another iWin).

2. Who (how many) do you think will buy it, and what will be the price of the fish ?

3. What will it actually offer over an Amithlon/Pegasos or A1-based system ?

4. Where is the money comming from (and you will needs lots of it if you want
to be taken serious by companies making GFX-chips,CPUs, Northbridges and OSes).
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

That's really something! I had no idea it was this far already. I did check your site some days ago but only a small intro on it was there. So I only got from it what I could read here. But like you said, the site will be containing all the info. That's good. And so far everything is looking good. At least your out there and trying. :-)
