A3000D: Setting up Catweasel MK2
« on: August 15, 2013, 11:01:03 PM »
Howdy!

I was hoping some of you might be able to provide some insight and assistance setting up my Catweasel IDE controller.

When I bought this A3000 a few years ago, it booted to a 4 GB CF card (2 x 2GB partitions) with Workbench 3.1.

Recently, the video stopped working. I disassembled the machine, and while the battery had long been replaced, the residual acid had corroded the Denise socket. I pulled the socket and installed a new one.

Unfortunately, I had to remove the battery. I assume this cleared any settings related to the CF setup, but I am not familiar enough to get it working again.

I appreciate any help :) Hopefully it is something simple.

I should mention that "DF0" shows up in the boot menu as enabled, but it still won't boot to the CF card.

I thought the Cat2 was just a floppy controller?

It could be an MK3 I suppose.

I doubt your A3000 is toast.

However, I also doubt that your Catweasel is what you think it is. :)
The Catweasel Mk2 Zorro card has an IDE port on it as it has a Buddha built-in (I use mine in my A1500 and it's great). I don't think you need to worry about the NVRAM because the A3000 should still auto-boot anyway from the Catweasel *I think*.

The Catweasel doesn't go anywhere near SCSI, though - it's just another bus: an IDE bus.

Is the Catweasel detected when you go into the Early Start-Up (hold down both mouse buttons, and go to Expansion Boards)?

I do see an expansion card listed, and it is the only card installed at the moment. It does show it as operational.

So it's possible I might need to reload my CF card, or try a different one?
