Pop sensation DJ Calvin Harris got his music career started with the humble but elegant Amiga computer.

It is hard to imagine that the superstar DJ first began making music on an old Amiga computer, alone in his bright orange bedroom. This week, it was reported the 29-year-old had made £30million this year alone. It has made him one of the richest celebrities under 30 in the world, beating Rihanna and Adele to the No 4 spot in Forbes magazine’s rich list.
Dumfries, in southern Scotland, is a world away from the neon lights of Harris’ residencies in Majorca, Ibiza and Las Vegas.

Purchase Calvin Harris albums on iTunes or Amazon. If you buy and listen to his remixes they have a very Amiga sounding feel.

Calvin, who started making music on an Amiga computer while working as a shelf-stacker at Marks & Spencer in Dumfries, will play at the home of the iconic biomes on Saturday, July 3.

Not my cup of tea.

I much prefer Mickey Finn, Andy C, Aphrodite, Randall and other oldskool producers that got started on the Amiga.

Just the other day I said to my teenage son "There was some crappy pop video on last night with Robbie Savage in it".

"No Dad, that's David Guetta!"

That's some funny ****.

Real talent none of this pop ****. Some amazing producers about

Etherwood, London elektricity, logistics, high contrast, Danny byrd, metrik to name but a few.

I think from the oldskool house dj's/producers about a third of them made some music on Amiga.

Don't get me started on the pointlessness of David 'one tedious trick' Guetta... :pissed:

Danny Byrd is a living genius. I partial to a bit of Sub Focus and Chase & Status myself too.

Not forgetting demoscene legend Hoffman!

Back in the old days you either had a 520ST and and Akai sampler or an A500.

The whole hardcore/jungle/dnb scene started out of these little babies. :)

He cant even dj properly by all accounts, plays pre-recorded & pre-mixed sets, basically presses play and tweaks some eq

You heard his latest album, got in on vinyl,  some amazing tracks on there, he really experimenting with non DnB within DnB at the moment, plenty of garage infulence at the mo

Golden Ticket?

Nah, not got it yet but will be buying it for my son for his 15th birthday in October as he loves Byrd's stuff.

Though I can't get enough of 170bpm+ breaks I do love a good stripped back 138bpm-ish tune.

Probably a throw back to my hardcore raving days. :)

If it aint' done with two or more 1210's and slabs of vinyl it ain't DJ'ing IMNSHO.

Sticking a few tracks into Ableton and auto beat matching them is no talent at all.

Get off my lawn! lol

Whilst you can not beat the sound of vinyl , I think there is a place for digital djing,  either time coded vinyl or cd to using thinks like trakor.  There is room for building up sets on the fly with loops and samples.

Whilst I agree that taking the skill of beat matching, mixing etc out of djing is a no go,  to me a big part of it is picking the tunes and the performace.

Cant beat live Dnb with a live drums and instruments :)
