Amiga Games, Inc. will publish its classic games for Android devices beginning this holiday, parent company Writers' Group Film Corp announced today.

Amiga Games, which has released ports of many 16-bit Amiga computer titles to modern consoles and mobile devices, has been approved by Google to launch its games through the Google Play online marketplace.

"Android is the fastest growing platform on the planet and we're excited to be in Google's marketplace," said CEO of Writers' Group Film Corp Eric Mitchell. "These developments will further strengthen our competitive advantage in the gaming marketplace. AGI's classic titles focus on delivering a quality retro-gaming experience for the consumer, so I am very optimistic about our new distribution arrangements."

I still think this is going to be a legal disaster. There's no way they have the rights to all those games.

What happened to the popcorn smiley? :)

There's also the not so small matter of the GPL licence that UAE uses.

Anyone want to place bets on them violating the GPL as well as selling games they don't own the copyrights to?

How do you think that will happen if they are prepared to give away the UAE
source void of the actual game disk image?
I imagine for individual game distributions, the same emu could be used,
so that only a single UAE package applies to all games until they modify UAE.

Given that they will most likely be selling games they don't own the copyright to what makes you think they'll respect the rights of those who wrote UAE?

I agree,  there a lot of c64 and Amiga games still copyrighted including all of the 'Ultimate Play the Game' owned by Raven and Hewson's entire back catalog..  not to mention System3 and Team17.

iUridium for example was a crap conversation,  retro games only work on retro hardware with a joystick..

They will make some cash and those Android owners whom don't own an Amiga may buy them..  but that's about it.

Because giving away the source for whatever UAE they use has no cost,
even if commercially motivated,
it's already out there for every mobile platform.

But not complying does introduce risk.
Particularly where GPL and iOS are concerned.
It would be gone quickly.

Perhaps they're not selling anything but a premise.

Pretending to own a game, I think, could work, unless the wrong person saw it and it was challenged.
Messing around with GPL license is a bit "in your face".

EDIT,,,
Droid has a number of ppl working on open UAE implementations.
A commercially driven thing would have to add to an emulated game on that platform.
