A1000 internal drive write protect detection broken

Recently it has become the case that any attempt to write to the internal floppy drive on my Amiga 1000 results in the OS reporting that the disk is write protected - even when it is not. The detector must be broken. I can see it as a little protruding plastic piece that i've been jiggling to try and "clear out" in case there was debris, but it makes no difference.

If I open up the machine, is this something I can likely fix, or should I just get a replacement drive before opening the machine? Can a 1010's mechanism be used inside the Amiga 1000 as a replacement for its internal drive?

@blakespot - I notice your location is Alexandria.  I'm close to there and have a 1010 drive that I'm not using, which worked fine as of a few months ago when I put it in storage.  As far as I know the drives themselves are interchangeable, if you decide you want to swap out your internal drop me a line.

I had an A1000 back in the day with the same exact problem.  Wasn't sure at the time if it was a defective/warped switch, but I think it might be a dirty switch.  My A3000 drive mechs, which might be the same or similar have the same problem.  Blowing compressed air onto the switch while pushing it up/down with a small screw driver or blowing it with contact cleaner seems to help a lot.  But the best way would be to open up the switch and clean it out thoroughly, I tried to dop that on one of my A3000T High Density drives and I ended up ruining it.

In my A500 I had the same problem - the sensor arm was bent via excess force used (not me).
