Octagon SCSI Controller HDtoolbox
« on: July 16, 2013, 02:32:16 AM »
I have an Octagon SCSI controller and I plugged in a new 4 gb hard drive, but I can't seem to figure out how to get hdtoolbox to partition it...It won't even see the drive.  I coppied the folder named "Octagon" from the old hd (I am not the original owner) and attempted to run their version of HDtoolbox...It sees the drive, but when I click partition it starts creating the RDB but then gives me a vague numerical error (not bad enough to crash)...Is there some trick to getting the regular HDtoolbox to work with this thing?

First make sure the drive you are using is terminated right. If the termination is not right you are likely to have many problems.

You need to set the tooltype in hdtoolbox to the scsi device that the octagon uses(octagon.device)???

you do this by clicking on the hdtoolbox icon once and then select Information from the workbench menu.
there you will see something like SCSI_DEVICE=

enter the octagon.device there instead of scsi.device. some are case sensitive so make sure it is exact. save it and then start hdtoolbox and it should show your drive.

Or better to get oktapus.lha from Aminet.

First make sure that you have latest oktagon.device in the onboard EPROM.
Latest version is 6.12 (or 6.10, don't remember right now).
if you have 3.xx version, the biggest HDD Oktagon supports is about 400MB.
I was forced to upgrade EPROMS on my two Oktagon 2008 cards to work with 9GB HDD's.
