Sysinfo peculiarities
« on: June 30, 2013, 10:27:14 AM »
Now... when I run Sysinfo on my stock A600/A500 the speed is 0.75 of A2000.
How come ? All those Amigas are 7MHz 68000.
Glory to the loud-mouthed Scotsman !

Because it is only 75% the speed of the A2000 in the processor speed test?

That's the figure if only Chip RAM is available. Some Fast RAM gives a higher figure.

Yes, but why :)
A500, A600, and A2000 have the same CPU.

Does A2000 come with FAST RAM by default ? That could explain the difference.
When I add FAST RAM to my A600 it is then equal to A2000.

CHIP RAM is shared....if the CPU has to wait for it's turn it will take longer to perform a task. FAST RAM is not shared so it's.....err.....FASTer :-)

Oh boy, nobody understands me :)

Stock A500 and stock A600, noooo FAST RAM, give the result of 0.75 compared to stock A2000.
Why ?
All those Amigas have the same 68000 7MHz CPU.

Do stock A2000s come with FAST RAM ? That would explain the difference in speed. If not, then how is it faster with the same CPU and CHIP RAM alone.

Most A2000s had some Fast RAM - but not all (rev 6.x?)

SysInfo is not the most accurate benchmarking tool. I wouldn't worry about the discrepancy.

It's a comparision against an A2000 with FAST RAM (which was the most common situation), as you mentioned if you add FAST RAM to an A500 it reads the same.

I used to sell Amigas.

A2000 did not ever come with fastram unless you bought it used or paid a dealer extra $$$ to install a fastram card for you (which would be stupid as you could plug a memory card in yourself in 5 minutes.  Autoconfig FTW!)

All versions of A2500 that I can remember, came with fastram.

But it would be dumb to buy an expensive A2000 and then not put in a memory card.  By 1988 I had 8MB fastram on my A2000.  I still have that A2000.
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,
Magic Spells and Monsters, Incredible playability and lastability,
English speech, etc. Total Chaos AGA

in SysInfo: I love how you get that "Call Me" message in the comment field if you test your UAE system on high speed setting. I don't know if you can achieve that message on hardware Amiga.

yes master,
in sysinfo the comparison is for an A2000+fast ram that's because is faster than the A600 config surely was measured using chip ram only
idem with A1200 and A2500...you will see there both uses 020 at 14mhz however the A2500 is faster because was measured using fast ram
if you add fast ram to the A1200 will be even a bit faster than the A2500 due AGA chipset
