fried 8520PL chip
« on: June 26, 2013, 07:55:48 PM »
The original rev.1A motherboard of my amiga 1200 has a defective chip i guess. I've replaced the motherboard by a rev.2B and it's working fine now. But, i'd like to try, to fix the original 1A motherboard.
The "broken" chip is located under the floppy drive ide-connector (391078-01 8520PL) and getting very very hot when the power is on.

Does anybody know where to get this chip?
And can i espect more problems beside this chip?

8520s are very easy to break, usually caused by plugging or unplugging something while the system is on. Fortunately, the PLCC versions are not difficult to find. AmigaKit can probably do the rework for you, but have them put in a socket instead of surface mounting it so that replacement will be easier if you have to do it again.

Ordered a chip at vesalia last evening. I give it a try and see what happens. i'll think about using a socket, probably easier and safer as well.
