FS: Restored Amiga 3000
« on: June 25, 2013, 01:12:41 AM »
For sale restored Amiga 3000 25MHz with 2MB chip RAM and 4MB fast RAM, 3.1 ROM OS3.1 installed on 2GB Hard drive with 2 partitions. MB REV 9.
I would prefer locally first, but if there are no takers then I'll ship (I need to find a suitable box first and it can take some time)

No keyboard and no mouse included, only the A3000.

$175 plus shipping or free pickup

I made some pictures detailing the restore process.

The stuff that was broken:
1. Front of the case was ripped, fixed by using plumbers putty, dries to a rock solid compound.
2. LED board, snapped in half, I made a new one by copying it, see pics.
3. The IC chip that multiplexes the joystick signals was improperly de-soldered making a damage to MB. The traces and Eyelets were damaged. Fixed by rerouting the signal by using external wires.
4. There is a battery leak damage, but is not causing any problems.
5. Missing Floppy drive eject button, could not find one, but I think you can get it from Shapeways (3D printing service)
6. Power button was broken, used shrink tubing to keep it together.
7. Missing floppy drive cover.
8. VGA stand off on the back of the Amiga is broken and can't be removed.
9. Missing plastic clips that hold the plastic barrier and daughter card together.
10. Maybe 1 or 2 screws missing from inside, there is alot of screws inside to track, iykwim.

May very well be interested if you don't find a local buyer, but that's all dependent on shipping costs and I am up here in Canada.

Very nice, clean machine - I'm about 110% sure you'll have no issues selling it to someone a little closer to home, but if you don't, get back to me.  A3000 was my first Amiga and I always wanted to run another BBS off one.

Nice collection.
I'd arrange to buy your A3000, but I'm refurbishing an A2000 right now.
Still, the price is attractive (especially considering what I'm going to have to lay out on the A2000).

I may be interested in the unit depending on shipping costs to CA. Please send me PM

Also, would it be possible for u to fabricate another one of those A3000 led panels?

Do you do amiga repairs? I* have an A4000 motherboard that needs fixing having a hard time to find someone in north america.

I don't have a box yet, so I'm not sure what the dimensions would be for shipping purposes.
The LED board is hand made. It took awhile to make it, I could make another one (maybe), with or without the LEDs? LEDs are from Radio Shack.
The process is kinda slow, like, print the layout, cut the PCB, Iron the layout, soak in water, etch the copper, clean the board, tint the copper, drill holes, solder LEDs and wire.

As far as repair, I can only fix what is visibly broken. I was able to fix my other A3000 due to the battery damage by re-flowing the solder joints with new solder. It seems to work fine so far.

Clever, I haven't played with Radio Shack's circuit board making stuff in decades (since the Amiga was still current).
I doubt they've changed much.

Hey, yeah i'd love a custom le'd board i'd put a blue led for power and white led for HD that would be cool on this a3000 restore im on. Sounds like a lot of work though would you be into doing another one?

Would you maybe take a look at the 4000 mb? Have you experience with them?

I'm interested in your a3000 let me know the costs when u can. Does it have keyboard and mouse?

Beautiful system, and great work getting her running again!  Impressed that you took so many photos, I can tell this was really a labor of love for you and I hope you find a fantastic home for her.  If I wasn't in Virginia and shipping probably even more expensive I might almost be tempted to get in line behind Magnetic for it, LOL.  ;)
