68000 FPGA Replacement
« on: June 24, 2013, 03:13:54 PM »
Hi All,

I wanted to thank all the people for the help on the 68010 14Mhz thread first. When going through look at links I stumbled across someone who made a fpga 68000 replacement. I think it reached speeds of 40 to 50 Mhz. Anyway, I went to look for it today and can not find the article anywhere. Does anyone know where that post is? Also, anyone have one? Just curious with the compatibility factor, that is all.

A 50Mhz 68000 is about the speed of a 7Mhz 68030.

If you want a 68030 for your Amiga they sell them and they are not that expensive.  Check out AmigaKit.com.  Ppl sell used ones all the time too.
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,

Are you referring to Majsta's project, or something else?

http://www.majsta.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=4

He posts on several Amiga sites, I think on EAB a bit more frequently than others.

He's accelerator does 14.35 MIPS due to caches and 87.5 MHz which is equalient to:
68030 @ 74.2 MHz
68040 @ 18.8 MHz

(2.64 MIPS without cache)

A 50Mhz 68000 is about the speed of a 7Mhz 68030.

That depends. You could make something that was compatible with 68000 instructions that had a 16 bit data bus that ran quicker than a hypothetically overclocked 68000.

Of course it's neither a 68000 or 68030.
