Easynet Wireless Card with Workbench?
« on: June 04, 2013, 05:36:02 PM »
Hi,

I've bought an Easynet wireless PCMCIA card, but I realise that it says you need Amiga OS, is there absolutely no way to get it working on workbench? I don't want to surf the net, it's mainly for file transfer from PC to Amiga. :S

I also bought one of these from amigakit - you can get it installed with the regular workbench disks that came with the a1200. Its not that wonderful!

However - in terms of file transfer - you are probably better off using a CF and a USB memory card reader to get things on and off the a1200.

I didnt find the performance to be very good at all. In addition it doesnt support
the more modern wireless encryption protocols. So to use it with any great regularity you will need to alter the settings on your wifi router to use a much less secure protocol.

If you want to get data off your amiga's hard drive you can always connect it
to your PC and using linux the DD command will help you to transfer the image onto your pc. Linux also suports reading and writing amiga file systems directly too.

That can probably be done on Windows also but i would have no idea how that works (I dont use windows much) . Im sure someone else could help here.

Hope this helps in some way

N...

Ahh, bugger.

I wanted to avoid opening up my Amiga and transferring files.

Just wanted to network it to the pc and move files freely across. :9

Monies not well spent. lol

Workbench *IS* AmigaOS. Workbench is the user interface of the Amga operating system. Up to version 3.1 there was no seperate name for the operating system. Beginning with version 3.5 they started to call it "AmigaOS". From then on they also called earlier versions AmigaOS. So if you have installed Workbench 3.0 on your Amiga, then you can say that you've got AmigaOS 3.0.

Check out this thread:

Also this may be of help if you're struggling with networking (EasyADF):

But like polyp2000 said, you'll need a method of reading the CF card on your PC/laptop.

The annoying thing is I already bought the card.

I don't understand why they make a wireless PCMCIA card and give you an install CD??? Surely it's the small Amigas that need a PCMCIA wireless card? They don't have CD drives?!?! lol

The only thing I can think of is to get a CF card reader for my pc, put WINUAE on and transfer the contents of the CD into a folder on the CF drive then install them that way.

The EasyNet networking and internet software is far too large to fit on floppy disks, so we have to distribute either on CD and now we also can supply it pre-installed on our Amiga hard disks.  Customers that buy a hard disk from us simply select EasyNet as the extra app for us to pre-install on the hard disk drive.

I can understand that, but I would have thought most people wouldn't have a way of getting it on.

I think I'll just get another cf card and a pcmcia transfer kit and move the files from cd to the card then to the amiga.

Thanks for your help.
