Thoughts on AROS

I know that it is no substitution for a true amiga, but I was wondering if anyone has tried out AROS and what their thoughts were on it?  I an thinking of formatting the windows partition on my Mac Mini, to dual boot into.  The only thing that is stopping me right now is the fact that I am using a Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Track Pad,, both of which are blue tooth devices that I do not believe are supported yet in AROS, also not too sure if the graphics card in the Mac mini is also supported, but looking to give it a whirl.

The only way to get that system to work with AROS will be to use Linux hosted AROS.  In other words: Install Linux to use its drivers and install hosted AROS which is a wine-like compatibility layer for running AROS software.  I don't think Boot Camp supports the GRUB bootloader used by unhosted AROS.

Actually, AROS does boot on some Intel Macs. And if it doesn't there are also the options of OS-X-hosted AROS and using a VM.

AROS CDs are live CDs, so you can check if your keyboard and mouse work before you install. I read that MorphOS supports Bluetooth input devices on PowerPC Mac minis, because Open Firmware presents them as USB devices to the OS, so maybe the same thing will happen on an Intel Mac.

I wish I could install AROS or Aeros on my Toshiba Satellite laptop with an AMD E-350 CPU, but so far I've failed to install either! I had no problems installing Ubuntu Linux 12.10 on it, though.

Burn an Icaros live CD and try and boot it to see if it supports your hardware.

If it does then just tell the installer to format the Windows partition and once it's installed hold down the option key each time you switch on your Mac to select AROS.

You can install the Refit bootmenu to give you a graphical menu to choose which OS to boot each time if you like.

not really, im using aros on true amigas, so whats the substiution u mean?
of course its nor perfect, far from it, but the more people help the closer. @ least you can run genuine amiga software here...

I have just setup a USB install on my Satellite using the pendrive download from the Icaros site. Seems to be working fine (if a little unstable).

AROS (68k) is running native on classic hardware, will run on FPGA Arcade and certainly on any other new 68k platform. So it will become a substitute (together with the ROM Replacement by Toni Wilen) in future. The more people test it and report the faster the progress will be.
