Picasso IV PCI Expansion
« on: May 19, 2013, 01:37:14 AM »
I'd heard about this mythical beast but never seen one until today.

Anyone know any details about it?  Why wasn't it released for sale, was it better/worse than other PCI bridges etc?

I am lusting after one more than ever now! :)

I think the existing expansion ports on the PIV do actually use the PCI standard, they're just in an unusual form factor. As you can see, there's not a whole lot of logic on the prototype full PCI expansion busboard. Probably wouldn't be too tough to create again.

On a different note, that Picasso Classic looks really cool! Shame that never came out. Imagine if there was an easy RTG option for A500s. That would have been a huge boon in the mid 90s.

There were only 3 or 4 of them made and they were only used to develop the 3Dfx Modul from the Mac PCI card.

IIRC, I saw a sort of working setup at WoC back in 98 in Cologne. Too bad the 3d card never materialized.
