« on: May 18, 2013, 01:32:13 AM »
Hello.
Who here is a Amiga Classic 3D expert?
1. I want to see what is needed for 3D in Classic hardware.

2. What is possible under WinUAE?

Thanks.

Depends on what you mean by "3D." Raytracing? Can be done on a stock 500 - it's just terribly slow. Wolfenstein 3D? Plenty doable at smaller screen sizes. DOOM requires more oomph, but it can basically run on a high-end 030/low-end 040. (And AGA, naturally.) Quake you need an 060 for...

winuae:
there was quarktex:
http://www.amigawiki.com/cgi-bin/wiki.pl/QuarkTex
never tried it, but i think it has a numerous limitations like a single instance of a 3d app at a time.
currently there is wazp 3d with native backend in form of a x86 3d dll library on the pc side. sould be enough for everything w3d currently availble including storm mesa apps. for details refer tp wazp3d documentation. all pretty easy:
http://aminet.net/package/driver/video/Wazp3D

on genuine amiga, use either warp3d (there is some fixed libs for mediator/voodoo3 cards but not out in the open, otherwise on higher level
storm mesa:
http://aminet.net/util/libs/StormMesa_Libs68K.lha
or the updated beta:
http://aminet.net/util/libs/StormMesa2010.lha
or wait for aros68k mesa working (expectedly incompatible with current apps)

Aladdin 4D ought to be able to render and manipulate 3D objects on a Amiga.

So should lightwave.

You can also consider Imagine, which have always been able to do proper raytracing.

Dear Friend:
I was watching lightspeed (a video magazine for lightwave 3d)and Dean Scott
uses lightwave 3d on an amiga 2000 with 6 megs of ram.
Is enough to make amazing animation, with lightwave and amiga.
So you see...is not impossible to make good animation on amiga.
Cheers !!!

Ufortunately I only had an A2000 with an Opal Vision card and an A2630 accelerator. I did not get to enjoy 3D.
Maybe soon.

I used to play Cybercon 3. I wish is was textured at least.
On the  C64 I like the Echelon 3.
If it had hidden line removal it would have been good.
It also had a voice controled fire button.

mercenary series (especially III) and castle master derivates, since you are taking about vector games.
but i think the subject here was meant rather like 3d acceleration.
