CFIDE68K microdrive vs CF memory card
« on: May 13, 2013, 12:13:39 AM »
Picked up another CFIDE68K card from Mikal and was trying to use an IBM 1Gb microdrive with it.

No joy!

Tried a CF memory card and it works perfectly!

Okay, tried a 340Mb microdrive.  No joy!

Ditto iomega 1Gb, IBM 512Mb, and a Hitachi 2Gb.

Tried 3 or 4 different adapters with same result.

Obviously, there is a difference between a Compact Flash Microdrive and a Compact Flash Memory card.

Can anyone explain to me how to get these to work?

I'm using an A500 with 3.1 ROM's trying to install 3.1.

Memory 2 Mb chip.  Will be dropping in a Kipper2 8Mb memory card also.

Curtis

I have tried a Seagate 5GB and a Seagate 8GB Microdrive and both worked iirc in my A600 using my former Mika's angled adapter.

Using Mechware's SCSI Multicard Reader though... Microdrives aren't recognized unless you put them on the PCMCIA slot with it's PCMCIA adapter.
Normal CF's work just fine in the CF slot...

From many tests I saw, despite at times Microdrives can give some kbs more in SysInfo... they certainly feel slower than normal CF cards.
Unless you make A LOT OF WRITES on CF cards, I'd say stick with a normal CF and be done with :)

I'd pretty well decided to stick with the straight memory cards vice the microdrives.

Guess I'll be using the microdrives for the PC's.  They're not as fussy.

Oh, forgot to mention the CFIDE68K doesn't like normal IDE hard drives either!

Normal?
