Help Me Test My BBS
« on: May 05, 2013, 02:41:07 AM »
Hello all.  I am, thanks to god a heart attack survivor.  I am currently at home on temp dissability and as anyone can guess very bored :)  I am trying to revive my old BBS system as a hobby to kill some time.  Can you please help me test if its working by telnet to : necrobbs.strangled.net   Thanks.  Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't work, as necrobbs.strangled.net resolves to 192.168.9.2

Hint: If your BBS server is at 192.168.9.2 on your LAN, you'll need to find out your WAN address, bind that address to necrobbs.strangeled.net at your dns host, then port-forward port 21 to 192.168.9.2:21 on your router/gateway

IP is unreachable, as it's an internal IP address via NAT.  Knock a hole in your router/firewall for the telnet port - looking forward to checking it out!

I am using CNet v5.07.  I guess I cannot do this.  I thought I could :)  I am using my cell phone connected to my computer via usb for internet connection.  I have to be able to forward ports on my cell phone. but Using the router address given I cannot do anything.  I have Tmobile network.  I am trying to find out if there is a way to forward.  I think I got the terms right :)  It's been a while.  I remember when I had comcast I was able to log into my router to do all this.  :)  Any suggestions?  Thanks all.

Yea cellphones, or mobile broadband connections does not genarlly offer a fixed IP and without that you'r stuck :(

The only way to get that to work would be to use a VPN connection service that offers a fixed IP at their end or switch to a more regular broadband connection.

10.x.x.x is still a private address space and not routable or accessable from the internet :( You need a VPN service that gives you a public IP adress, very few do but they exists.

Well, I took the plunge and ordered real internet service for my home.  With a real router so I can forward ports and everything.  Equipment should arrive by this weekend.  Stay tuned for my BBS to be back online.  Like I said just a hobby to kill time :)
