DXX-Rebirth coming to AGA 68k
« on: May 03, 2013, 02:27:48 AM »
Quick heads-up on my next AGA 68k project :)

Got it running for the first time on my Miggy the other night so I did a little video to celebrate.

It's taken about 3 months work to get it this far.

Before anyone starts going on about how slow it is, yes BETA 1 == SLOW ;)

You can read all about this new port on the EAB project thread

And doesn't my WB look cool :)

I haven't read all the blurb on their site but I can see that it supports 3rd party missions, texture packs and also has support for compressed audio (for music I think).

It's also been bug-fix and the code has been cleaned up, the original DOS code was a complete nightmare to work with!

By the way and sorry off topic, but has you looked sources of Atari Falcon vesrion of Duke 3D? Looks very fast, they has cleaned code a lot, or at least they say so :)

Is there a generic version of build engine? That would allow games like

Witchaven
Duke Nukem 3D
PowerSlave
Witchaven II: Blood Vengeance
Blood
Shadow Warrior

Though even plain Duke 3D engine would allow some unseen games for Amiga, like

Extreme Paintbrawl
NAM
Redneck Deer Huntin'
Redneck Rampage
Redneck Rampage Rides Again
WWII GI

I have understand that port wich is already for 68k cpus would be easier than others? And Duke 3D source is complete mess, would require very patient über genius to make it work fast.

Spiffy! Does it support external MIDI?
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

I'm not sure if the engine does?  I'm afraid it won't be very high on my priority list anyway, I'm after something fast and stable and then anything else on top of that will be only if I've got the time.

Check this link for more info on what the base engine supports -> http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/

The first 2 times I tried to port this to AGA I couldn't get anything that was stable, I tried porting the base engine and also Hyperion's port but couldn't get anywhere so I switched to this port.
