Nightlong , the endless tale finally solved!
« on: February 01, 2004, 12:55:49 PM »
yeah its about the Amiga port of the Pc Game Nightlong, which comes on 3 cds etc.

Costed me well over 100 quid , YEp it did..

That was back in 2000/1.

This morning i woke up at the sound of my digital clock beliving it was monday! (oops) but it was sunday, and i noticed that AFTER! i had dressed up for work etc, so i went on the net and as usual SUNDAY's are boring!

so after like 10 minutes of browsing i figured, why not play a game instead of going back to bed....

*GREAT DECISION*

loaded up my save from ages ago , where i have been stuck forever! and ever.

1 hour passed , still hadnt got any way closer to solving the puzzle , 2 hours passed , 3 hours passed and JUST when i was about to quit it (again) i got an very good idea and i solved the puzzle, and it was the FINAL puzzle....Game completed, i got abit..WOOOOOT???, but then again it was an advendture :)

the Final Puzzle must be one of the hardest i have ever played, and i am not sure what the developers where thinking but one thing is certain they do like Math+scrabble+expect the player to have a huge slot of reasoning! .

--

anyone completed this game and thought the same?

Finally the money i spent on this game paid off and i must say that the game is still cool and all but fairly unlogic , puzzles in the easy grade often got HARD or near impossible to even figure out until u stumbled over it..

now, when can we see nightlong 2 for AmigaOne/os4 ? :)

ps:fav place in the game must have been the Amusement park, played that part abit today also :) (where u go to find the diary)

I'd like to know how to get it to work if you have a broken CD set like I think I have... I havent looked into it much as its typically not my kind of game but im going to install it again now on my other machine and see how it goes... last time I did it the game kept guruing when I tried to load it up...

ryu:the broken cd print has nothing to do with the game crashing! , it has something to do with the cd print and problems reading it at all and so on..

i sent my cds back to clickboom and got the new working ones (new print).

anyway u could always try a new cdfile system or cdrom if u suspect that its your cd's print.

pps:try to download the updates from s-files 21 (i think thats it) and there u will find upto 1.3)

anyway u always need to assign Q: to cd0: on most cdfile systems , i dont know why but i have to do that , so when u reach cd2 etc u have to assign q: to cd0: again to get further..

cheers

I'll try to get the updates...

I know about the Q thing, I have read all the readmes on the CD...

I just dont understand why it always guru's with an 8000004 error everytime... and I thought it had WOS support yet theres only the 68k and 68k no fpu exe....

The case of Amiga's Nightlong has been such a mess that I recently decided to get a cheap second-hand PC copy. It runs flawlessly under Win2K and I've been a happy cyberpunker since then.

If you've got a faulty CD set like me (the copies are physically corrupted and unreadable at various points of the game), then it's impossible to complete the game. And of course I've given up on getting a refund since ClickBoom clearly stated that they won't replace the old sets.

That was a good lesson to learn about Amiga companies: never *ever* preorder anything, be it hardware or software. Wait for the final product to be reviewed and accepted by the public.

kaminari: eh what? , i got a new set from them and i know of many more who did..

it took 10+ months because of the lawsuit and it has nothing to do with clickboom really as it was the company that prints the cd's fault.

I know a lot more people (me included) who were offered to get a new set for an additional fee, which I refused, because ClickBoom could not afford to compensate everyone for the faulty sets. And yes the duplication company was at fault -- but I'm a customer of ClickBoom, not of this company. Talk about customer support.

Aye I got burnt by the CD cockup too, nevertheless I was able to install it. Shame it's unplayable with the crappy A1200 IDE. Movie playback sucks, loading times between scenes crap. I'll keep this game in the cupboard till I get an Amiga with a  DMA HD controller :-).
