Amiga Live Image Processing Board
« on: April 19, 2013, 03:41:17 AM »
How utterly cool it would be to have one of these!

http://www.audiovisualizers.com/toolshak/vidsynth/a_live/a_live.htm

This is a video created using an Amiga equipped with an Amiga Live Image Processor Board. Music by the band Download featuring members of Skinny Puppy, Dead Voices on Air, Psychic TV, and of course Phil Western.

Wait... Wait...
You have only yourself to blame
You hear distant voices
Speaking only to you
Special words for safe ears
Telling you secrets
That only you can understand
That only you can comprehend
Your imagination has been given the freedom
To do whatever you want to do
And nobody will tell you to stop
To cease
Or to go away
Around your spinning head
Around your golden head
Special words, glowing
Wait... Wait...
You hear a distant hissing
You hear voices
You turn your head
The wasps
The songs
The birds
The morning
You see everything that you want to see
Everything is possible
People of good clean spirits
Daughters, sons, of thirteen gods
Thirteen peaks
Stars, mountains
Hear the word
You are pure
You are everything or anything that you want to be
You are everything

(Video created live on an Amiga computer)

I have 2 of these 1 is the A500 LIve! the other the A2000 Live! Pretty awesome. If anyone has the 500 version I need the voltages of the pinouts from the PSU I never had a psu for it and want to make one.

"can capture sequences as large as the amount of free memory"

Looks like a really fun toy.

I was thinking that something like these and/or a video toaster could be really  fun with slow scan HAM television.

In other words.. with 720 x 525 @ 6-bpp with 8 MB of memory that would last 1.2 seconds..

Or need a harddisc storage rate of 6.8 MB/s.

Nice tool, inadequate computer ;)

That is completely wrong 8mb is plenty of ram and you can grab a much longer sequence than you are talking about.

freqmax I have a feeling you are just guessing and have never owned a Live! board or seen one in usage. is this correct?  And iirc the Live! 2000 can be configured for Component input as well as composite (which the comp has 1 and 2 and switchable iirc)

The bits got to go somewhere. So if you want to record the video feed and use the most lowrate option there is:
8 Mbyte / resolution * bits/pixel * frames/second =
(8*1048576 *8)/(320*256 *4 *15) = 13.66 seconds of video

Tell me where else the bits would go? keep in mind that the card seems not to be able to do digital video compression (ie mpeg4 etc). With low resolution and for an Amiga fast harddisc controller that manage 600 kB/s realtime disc saving is one option. That is if realtime DMA from video capture won't collide with disc transfers.

If one uses something else than video capture, like instructions to mix existing video feeds or overlay graphics. The demand for storage is significantly less.

You guys confuse me.
I used both the 1000 and 2000 LIVE cards. We didn't capture or convert...
We used them "LIVE"
