Amiga 3000 CIA issues
« on: April 12, 2013, 09:21:45 PM »
I'm having problems playing games on the a3000 as soon as I load one the pointer goes to the top left corner of the screen,  thinking this was a cia issue when the game initializes the joystick I switched them around to see if I would get different results, and I did everything worked for about 10 min then started doing the same thing just not as bad.  Any ideas...

Sounds like this could be heat related.

Have you tried some freeze spray to see if the issue is heat induced ?

What game? Most amiga games don't have a pointer. Does the mouse work in workbench?

If it's just certain games using the lowlevel.library for joystick/joypad support, then try this:

http://aminet.net/driver/input/NewLowLevel.lha

I thought I had bad caps on my 3000T before I tried it but it fixed my problems. It's easy to try anyway.

It looks like it's Heat related,  Let it sit for a couple of days went back to it worked fine for 10min then I got the same issue with the joystick, mouse works fine mouse buttons seem to be hit or miss after 10min also.  So how do I fix this heat issue???  Oh and the games are Wings and Bally III

A few things you can try:
1. Clean the MB with air, especially the power supply.  You can finish the job with circuit board cleaner.
2. See if Cosmo has anymore Gal replacements for the Pals.
3. Elevate the 3000 by it's feet an inch or so, the bottom gets quite hot.
4. Replace the power supply fan with another 80mm 2/4 wire fan, the stock one runs at 2500RPM, find one that runs faster.
5. Add another fan to the front of the case.
6. Never run a 3000D without it's case for any period of time.
7. Add heatsinks to the hottest running chips.  Generally all the chips around the Pal/Gal u202 chips etc, run the hottest.
8. You can remove and clean all the socketed chips and try reseating them.
9. Make sure that you keep the front and back of the system away from a wall.

You don't need to hack the case to let it run cooler,

Good luck..
