Perhaps try creating an emergency boot disc with OS3.9, then install the OS. Once that's done you can create/edit partition table and file system used. Use a 2nd partition, then copy the OS files across to that, use boot menu to select the secondary OS install, then partition/format original OS install partition with pfs, then copy back. This last step is only necessary if you want the boot partition to also use PFS (recommended anyway).

There's a bunch of ways to go about it, but this should work.

edit: if you find yourself having problems booting the OS3.9 disc (sounds like your current install may not be stable enough) then Winuae might come in handy as you can boot from an ISO without the need for cd drivers. Once its installed you'll have access to os3.9 hdtoolbox and you'll also be able to update your file systems with whatever you like, so you can complete the process on your amiga (or do it under winuae, the choice is yours :))

Good luck and feel free to ask if you find yourself stuck again.

Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

Wont be able to boot into Workbench without the apollo libs. You'll find those in the files I emailed you.

Easiest way is to set it all up under WinUAE using 030 settings then copy the libs over and away you go from there.

I have couple of questions I want to ask:

1) Can I make an hdf file in WinUAE and transfer that HDF file back into my Amiga 1200?

2) My problem is that Workbench3.1 itself and install3.1 will not allow me to add the filesystem PFS3. And to make matters worse, ONES I MANAGED AND FINALLY MANAGED to my eyes get the PFS3 file system into my real HD and I used the workbench31 format to format it at the end of the format there is an error validating the HD with a -3 and it still came up as System:???. When I rebooted the amiga on workbench31 the HD or System:??? is gone. What do I do?

3) I have no other means of getting into my HD except with workbench31 and install31 and both of those are not able to handle my situation correctly. I just wanted to partition 3 partitions all using PFS3 before installing anything on them I do not WANT TO INSTALL THEM ON FFS OR OFS ANYMORE!! What do I do??

4) Can I just make these partitions on my WinUAE hdf, set it the way I want it then transfer that HDF and burn it back into my A1200's real HD? If the answer is yes, is there an adf boot disk like ghostimage for windows but for Amiga that allows me to transfer HDF file back into the real HD? I have with me from AmigaKit a program that allows me transfer adf to disk and from disk to adf, is that the same program I can use for HDF for my Amiga's 1200 HD?

Yes, all I do however is use a folder on the PC as my drive then format the cfcard/hdd that's going into the amiga and copy straight from the folder to the cfcard/hdd under WinUAE.

http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/pfs3aio PFS3AIO is the way to go.

Here is a good read/howto - http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=64949

You'll need to partition the drive on it's own, but follow the guide above.

That my friend is the very same tutorial I was using (even printed) to install PFS3 but to no avail. I discovered however, the difference between SFS and PFS3 is not SO GREAT, sure the PFS3 is a little bit by a margin faster so that I can live without. However, I discovered that SFS2 can support files larger than 4 GB in a single file and can see partition of HD larger than 20 GB up to 128 GB. To me THAT SOLVED ALL MY PROBLEM. So i am going to follow the video tutorial and install SFS instead...I want to get OS 39+flooded with patches+apollo1260 drivers and stuff+real AmiKit so I can START HAVING REAL FUN on my A1200. I want to play strife, scummVMAGA and so on. So hopefully if anything today I can just finally get the Amiga 1200 functional so tomorrow I can stuff software inside of it.

Ok guys I am ready!! I have finally installed AmiKit AGA (real) in my A1200. I just have one annoying thing...I want to get rid of the background picture and I cannot for the like of me able too. In the prefs I even selected no background and it kept telling me to close all windows before trying and I tried but it failed..so I rebooted the system and it is still there. Can anyone help me get rid of it completely it sucking huge memory out of my A1200. Also I noticed the CPU usage is a constant 31%...is that normal with AmiKit AGA? There is no way I can lessen the use of the CPU?

I am using a real mouse. But actually I have something more important than that. I have setup my main partition System to be SFS (yess) and my work partition to be SFS. I know my HD have 20 GB in total but it can only see 7 GB. How do I get the remaining missing GB? I sorta need that for my games...concerning AmiKit..somehow I managed to get the setting I wanted..surprisingly and now I have 26 MB of Free memory in additional to my chip ram which I believe is more than enough for most apps/games. But the real problem is the remaining partition is not viewable. I missing complete 13 GB.

u really should use PFS3 AIO edition (AIO = All In One) it works with every hardware config to give you your full unlimited HD sizes.  It has to work on ur hardware.

Since u r going all hardcore Amiga Maniac :) u should consider to have 4 boot partitions:
1. ClassicWB
2. AmikitOS
3. Plain OS 3.x
4. Whatever else u think of later

That way u can have fun trying out everything.  Be a total distroslut :D

The only problem I have is I cannot see the remaining 13 GB. What I will not do is flood this sweet website's forum with my woes and wees I will wait patiently until I receive my WiFi adapter that supports WPA/WPA2 security so i can hook my A1200 online in WiFi then  I will ask support in the Amiga IRC community itself. There are couple of more things I need to ask and help optimize. Like for example, when I use ScummVM AGA 060 and run the game Full Throttle in PCMCIA card the FPS is not so smooth. The intro cut scene is very slow and jumping in frames heavily, the game is playable but the cut scene is slow and not moving in correct frame rate...so I am wondering is it because I have not configured Apollo correctly even though I follow's Lurch advice. The only thing I removed is the Ftext because it is causing a problem in my font...so there are things like that I want to discuss live in IRC client. I know I can use a PC for that but I would rather wait for my WiFI card and use it in my A1200 instead. Other than  AmiKit is a bit slow performance only because maybe it is using 30% CPU I do not know or maybe because my card is not optimized correctly, it can play MP3 sweetly, video plays it in a good frame rate, sound good but still sound a bit echoing and dragging. Maybe I need to convert from stero sound to mono to get better performance. It can run games sweetly I have not tried strife yet so if it can run strife with no problem I should be fine.

Have full throttle running really smooth. It does hit the HDD hard though so needs fast access to it.

I have it running through a fastata so not sure what setup you are using?

That is my problem. I don't have FastATA at all so that is why it is not running really smooth at all with me. That also means if I actually have FastATA installed I can watch movies in HAM8 as smooth as a Quad Processor 2 Ghz with 4 GB RAM running Windows 7 would run an AVI movie in a PC. But because I don't have FastATA it is HITTING ME HARD IN ALL sorts of performance, movies and AGA games ported by NovaCoder. That is also means if DOSBox AGA would succeed in running smoothly but require the maximum accelerator it would require me to buy FastATA fast or else my Apollo 1260 running at 80 Mhz would do squad for me.

Hey Lurch I have a little problem. When I ran AmigaSYSAGA with OS 3.5 which prevented the HDtools from working my Amiga runs 100% As soon as I upgraded to OS 3.9 and all the icons returned into their chiney beauty and HDTools works again and my last partition which is 15 GB showed again where before it was not visible after booting in my AmigaSYSAGA in 30 seconds to 40 seconds the screen turns gray and I have to reboot the Amiga. Ones I reboot it (with software failure message) it returns back again to normal and after 30 to 40 seconds the screen turns gray again. I do know it have to do with driver issue or something resident in memory that is causing this conflict due to version incompatibility or what not. What advice do you have in this regard?

The calendar/clock thing in amikit AFAIR chewed up cpu cycles.

Not sure if this works in SFS, but addbuffers command in startup sequence used to help spooling stuff off hard drive.

Are you sure you have the apollo libraries? Also make sure to remove the bliz kick line, I think it was AmigaSYS that adds that :-)

Why? What does Bliz kick line do?

P.S "Following your advice Lurch, now my Apollo runs at optimal performance! The game throttle RUNS AT OPTIMAL SPEED and it is like a quad processor or feels like quad process. The only problem with that gray screen, it is a bit late so I am heading to sleep and will try it tomorrow and give you an update then."
