How to install A1200 roms?
« on: March 03, 2013, 03:01:52 AM »
Yoo!

Just curious about something.  I know there is a notch and that they have to be installed to the furthest right of the socket, but since there are two rom chips, is there a specific chip of the two to put in each socket? Like are both chips identical and you drop them in however you want??? Reason I ask is because both 3.1 chips I bought looked identical except for a number, so I installed it as I got the chips in the mail....

Either way, whats exactly the correct order? :) :) Sorry for it being such a newbie question, but never really had a need to upgrade to 3.1 roms till now.

The roms I got didn't have those stickers.  I just went off the order they were put in some styrofoam and installed them. The A1200 booted up. But just wanted to know for future reference if infact they are picky which socket they went in.

Yes they need to go in the correct socket. The numbers written on the ROM's in the photo are the numbers which are also written on the motherboard by the sockets.

The photos have U6A and U6B... But the roms I have had neither on them. I just went by the 391773 for the bottom socket and the 391774 for the top socket.. Damn, would of something fried out if I installed them wrong or would it simply not boot up?

They're electrically the same, but the software in them wouldn't make any sense.

The ROMs contain firmware (software stored permenantly more or less) and as long as the notch aligns correctly then if reversed they would contain gibberish; so you have a 50% chance of getting right the first time.  Just in case, mark them with an indelible pen for future reference.
