as  some of yous  know i have been building a nice  a1200  ..got  a few nice bits  external ssci harddrive/usb/dvd/flicker fixer  ..etc prob  the best 1200 i ever had ..but hiding in my cupboard is a 040 apollo card  which worked  fine  for ages  an a ppc 040/blizzard card  ..neither will boot ..though  i am persistant an tried out on a couple 1200 boards  ..when i use a a500 power supply  i get the machine to power up but black screen ..harddrive  doesnt boot but power light stays on an i can feel the 040 on the apollo  gets way hot  fan running etc  ..an on ppc both cpus  get hot  ..so i dont think they are 100% dead ..i was swapping ram around at one stage an wonder if i have the right ram for the cards  ..tried  the ram in other cards  ..a 020 accel  an it boots ..but these are 8 meg  ram ...any ideas ?? ..the apollo  was  a nice card  though 040/25  didnt feel much faster than a 030  ..but the blizzard  would be mad to have working again ..an i dont have the heart to toss  it ..just in case ..i also wondered if certain boards are not compatible with the ppc boards ?? ..comments  ideas  ..welcome..

Just Don't toss them, I think you should see if someone with the expertise would be willing to look at them first. If the CPUs is defective you could have the 040 upgraded to 060 provided you can get the correct mach chips. I don't know much about Apollo stuff, but I did have a Blizzard PPC at one point and I do have a 1260 now, and they are not picky about RAM(EDO/FPM) and "just work". Now, you could have instability after boot due MB timing problems or 060 library.

BTW.... A 25mhz 040 is twice as fast as a 030/50 :)

That is like the difference between a moped/scooter and 4cyl car....

BTW, when I say "not picky" about RAM I mean about it working. Getting a large chip that fits is a different story :)
