The Telmex CDROM controller

Hi ,any one ever used one of these as i have just bought one ,
 
The Telmex CDROM controller connects to the PCMCIA port of the A600 and A1200. It consists of a PCMCIA card, and external CDROM case housing the CDROM and two PCBs and a is powered by a 13.5v power supply. The case also has sterieo audio out and audio in connectors. The audio in is mixed with the audio from the CDROM. The PCBs step down the voltage to provide 5v and 12V to power the CDROM and audio mixing circuit. The cable between the CDROM unit and the PCMCIA is quite heavy duty and there's a driver for the unit in the IDE-Fix software suite. To get CDROMs working, it may be necessary to remove the "master" jumper.

I had one of those installed in my tower. As it happens, I was able to run it without the external power supply by simply powering the drive from the PSU.

It worked fine with CacheCDFS, though the mechanism itself could be fussy with various media (replaced it with a decent Sony one from back in the day and that worked a treat). However, the interface is more resource hungry than even the regular IDE.

I swapped it out long ago for a network adapter and never looked back

 Hi thanks for the reply ,so it worked ok ,i just like the look of it ,it has not arrived yet ,but i think it will look good against my 1200 Amiga ,and its a little different ,best wishes Brian
