That'll work great for common items like iPhones, but I doubt it'll have any effect on markets where less common items (let alone anything that could be considered collectible) comes up.

Won't change anything... Amigas are considered antiques or collectables, so they can be priced at whatever the market will pay.

Some sellers increase the price of their items drastically when they are running low, are they are temporarily out of stock, this is a sales tactic to keep their current listings live and avoids loosing the sales history and search ranking for that particular item if it was simply allowed to sell out, so I imagine this is just eBay's way around the problem,  the intended targets are probably the likes of the seller in the link below.
