Direct Aminet search from most browsers
« on: January 20, 2013, 03:21:35 AM »
Didn't think to check if this existed until just recently, so posting to spread the knowledge around:

Here you can find Mycroft search plugins to perform a basic search of Aminet directly from your browser's search bar. I believe IBrowse and MorphOS OWB are compatible (although they ship with Aminet search by default, so this isn't really necessary for them), as are all the usual browsers for PC/Mac/Linux.

Not certain if this is the same one I've been using in Firefox for about forever, but a search plug-in is extremely useful.  Never tried using if in IBrowse, so if anyone has I'd appreciate a review on whether or not it works.

I remember many years ago someone had put together an Aminet search plugin for Firefox, but it required a bit of effort to install and configure. This one is literally one or two clicks.

IBrowse comes with an Aminet search option out of the box. Works great!

NetSurf for OS4 comes with an Aminet search option too.

Try the "Add keyword for this search" feature in Firefox et al: just right-click into any search prompt and use this menu item to define a keyword for this prompt, e.g. "ami".  Then, you can enter "ami mui" into Firefox' location bar and it'll search Aminet (or whatever) for "mui" - a neat, hardly known feature and highly useful.
