AmiBay or eBay?
« on: January 13, 2013, 10:13:41 PM »
I have an A2000 and an A1200 Blizzard '060 accelerator I want to sell. Obviously I want few hassles and a decent sell price on the units. eBay w/ PayPal's holding funds for a period of time is a big hassle.

Do things go pretty well on AmiBay? Or is it definitely a lesser $$ situation there?

Don't mean to sound $$ hungry, but I am trying to sell for $$, of course.

Thanks.

from my experience:

Selling- EBay gets higher $ all the time (people just get caught up in the bidding war thing)

Buying- AmiBay gets better deal majority of time

btw, I much prefer buying & selling on AmiBay as it's just straight forward with no hidden fees & so far I have never had a problem after many transactions

What the devil type of account do you have with Paypal? I have never had them hold any funds. (unless someone tries to pay via echeck - which I don't allow these days).
Anyway - usually you are better off selling through ebay.
For some reason I kept falling the cracks at amibay, so I just gave up on them.

Put in on Amibay, you set a fixed price and don't pay any fees, you can even ask the buyer to pay the PayPal fee.

Sure you might make a bit more on eBay but after all the fees probably less and more hassle than Amibay :)

I've sold a lot of stuff there and no real problems to report.

Don't think so. Use Amibay a lot, it's get's an unfair rap. It's a great site and the mods are great.

I avoid the ebay paypal crime syndicate.

If you want to do business with me then you must accept payment via a reputable process such as:
AmazonPay
USD $ (sometimes called "cash" or "greenbacks")
Check (from a US Bank)

None of the above charges you any fees.

I will never use PayPal criminals again.

There are no paypal fees if you pay with Amazon.

AFAIK Amazon only works in USA but the OP is a USAling so I figure I should mention it :)

I have gone crazy buying stuff online with my AmazonPay.  All the money I send to the poor hard working ppl makes it into their bank account.  Its like magic.  You press a button and bzzzap!

STAY AWAY FROM AMIBAY. Its run by a bunch of old fanboys that have a fascist outlook on your privacy and what you can and cant do with your hardware or software you sell or buy there.

Just realize if the buyer sends the money as a gift you lose out on buyer/seller protection. Alot of people on amibay abuse this to avoid a paltry 3-4% fee which i think is fair. eventually they will ruin it for all of us and the gift option will disappear.

i agree with others anywhere BUT amibay. the most ridiculous rules i have ever seen and its no safer than anywhere else.

Ebay fees are terrible but i dont think its a hassle.

but why on earth would anyone send money as a gift on AmiBay (or any where else for that matter unless your sending money home to your mom ??? I have never had an issue with buying Amiga stuff on AmiBay and I'm so glad we amigans have an alternative to E(vil)Bay.

I like AmiBay, and it's always nice to keep it in the community, but your luck will depend largely on what kind of money you want versus how much the folks there value it. I've had excellent luck getting modest prices, and I've seen hard-to-find items go for much more, but I've never tried to sell any such stuff myself (on account of not having any!) Still, I'd say it's worth a shot, especially with eBay apparently going out of its way to alienate independent sellers these days...

Do you mean they can check your PM and watch all the messages there? That would indeed be a privacy breach.

I like Amibay for selling your items.
But if you want to buy something, its like lottery, when you need something badly, you cant find it and where it suddenly appears, someone else ask for it first, no bidding.
Also i cant imagine to buy something and get nothing, from someone who is selling over amibay for the first time, how you get your money back?
