Alien Breed remake confirmed for PS3, Vita. Original Amiga classic revived with online multiplayer.

A remake of the original Alien Breed released on Amiga in 1991 will be revived for PS3 and Vita via a PlayStation Store release in "early February", developer Team17 has confirmed.

The remake will give players the option to play with enhanced visuals or the original 16-bit graphics of the Amiga version, while adding further enhancements in the form of online and local multiplayer for both versions.

I can say one thing...

Alien Breed was meant for dual analog! :)

Long time in the making as it was announced in 2009. Glad to see it on PS3 finally.

My favorite game, albeit a demo, is still Putty Squad.  Looks like this will be released soon, too!

I hope they also release a Wii U version, downloadable in Nintendo's eShop.

I'm confused - how will this be different from the Playstation mobile version that I can already download on my Xperia play or Vita?  I guess the PSN version will have trophy support and ...?

Simialr situation with Jetpack Joyride - mini version (costs money) and free version on Playstation mobile.

I'm not clear on which device is getting what, but I can say this.

On XBOX 360, PC, and I believe OS X, they have a new Alien Breed trilogy that is displayed from an angled bird's eye view contrary to the original's top down view. Also instead of a sprite based world everything is done in the Unreal 4 engine.

On the iPod you can play the classics, as well as a new episode made just for the iPod. You can play in classic mode, or you can play in another mode which doubles the resolution and appears to use a different texture base than the Amiga originals.

What is really cool about this is the fact that it plays with a virtual dual analog set up. Generally, unless it is something like an RPG or Point and Click Adventure, I despise gaming on touch only devices. They seriously need buttons and a cross pad like Nintendo, without them, nearly ALL action games blow ass...

...with this exception, I find that even on my tiny iPod that my fingers are not getting in the way of the action, and that it is pretty easy to control, what is cooler is the fact that you can now run in one direction and fire in another which is something this game needed from the get go!

I could only wish that Team 17 would release their old sources, or come back and give the Amiga community a big surprise and at the very least go back and at least ad keyboard and mouse support to the classic version, so we could play it with the free fire option. Sadly this will never happen, and sadly I have to admit something this one time...

...that this Amiga classic is now officially best played on an iPod and not an Amiga. :/

Played it.  LOVED IT!

I'm on the 3rd episode of the new Alien Breed (Owned for a long time but wouldn't play with my hardware under XP) and really like it.  The two player option is CRAZY hard!  You really need to come up with a battle plan or you are "Meat for the Beast" (Someone name that quote).  My friend and I play with one as a machine gunner and the other as shot cannon op.

Anyone here play it on Steam?  I'd love to pick up a few games with others who have it.
