BSC/Alfa Data CD1200 PCMCIA drivers needed.
« on: January 26, 2004, 08:16:38 PM »
This device supposedly works with ATAPI CD rom drives if IDE-fix'97 is installed or the latest version of the CD1200 original drivers. It was originally made for use with now obsolete Mitsumi (IDE like) standard, which requires a compatible Mitsumi drive...which I of course don't have.

I've tried using the IDE-fix'97 3.5 with it, however FindDevice only reports UNKNOWN (SCSI?) DEVICE connected, when I use an ATAPI CD drive attached. Does anyone have any tips on how to make it work, or can perhaps point me to the latest original CD1200 drivers with ATAPI support?

Hi,
It is possible to find those Mistumi type CD-ROMS on ebay - I was looking before at the idea of changing the CD drive in a CDTV (which I believe is undoable). Aren't they the ones used with that custom interface - KDH or whatever its called - that was used on early Soundblaster cards?
I think Downix pointed me to a couple on US ebay, perhaps you could keep you eyes open?

Regards

I was thinking of that option too.
There are quite a few Mitsumi CD drives on eBay right now. I know that there are even some "newish" Mitsumi drives which support the old standard, but it would be trial and error unless someone knows of a working revision, compatible with the old standard, and can point me to it. :-)

Well, I have one of those PCMCIA controllers as you describe. I have used a Mitsumi CD-R on it, but also a Creative drive. I don't think it should be a Mitsumi, in order to work, but I am aware of the info on www.amiga-hardware.com.

In order to install the drive I use tandemat_pcmcia.device, and I think it's also in the IDE-fix package I think. If you don't manage to find the drivers, then PM me, and I will send the contents of devs: of the install disk.

--edit--

Just saw the aminet description og IDE-fix 97. Your controller should be supported.

Yes, IDE-fix'97 from Aminet has that device driver in it. I've tried them all, and they all detect the two ATAPI CD drives that I tried with UNKNOWN (SCSI?) DEVICE. It could be that I was really unlucky to have 2 drives which definitely are not compatible, but who knows.  :-?

When you use FindDevice, does it report the right model number and manufacturer name in it, or do you get garbage like me?
