Cybervision64/3D installation problems
« on: January 08, 2013, 08:49:47 AM »
system is as follows
A3000D, 3.1roms, acard scsi2ide bridge, 4GB CF card on ide2CF adapter, A3640 CPU, 1Mb onboard fastram (zip chips), 2Mb chipram. Rev 11 buster. IndivisionECS. coclino PS2 mouse adapter.
zorro cards bottom to top, ZorRam256, CV64/3D, kickflash, AriadneII.
OS3.1 base install upgraded to 3.9. BB1, BB2 and unofficial BB3 + BB4 installed

ever since plugging in the CV64/3D (DCE version), i get random lockups and crashes. after installing the Cybergraphix software (4.1r4? i think), everything looks fine when it's running, but as soon as i test a graphics card screen, i get a full crash. it has to do the double reboot to load the OS3.9rom modules again - as i've disabled the kickflash...
also the cybergraphix video modes don't show up in screenmode prefs, even after double clicking the monitor. so far i've set the graphics modes in cgxmode prefs to be 60hz vesa standard modes, to drive an LCD panel.

what should i do? my inital thoughts are:-
1. change the slot the GFX card is in
2. remove all cards except the GFX card
3. re-install OS, starting with 3.1 and seeing if the GFX card works on a 3.1 base install?
4. power problems? surely a 180W PSU can cope?

i don't know. my amiga fire has died a little bit of late. when it's all working, it's great, but then one little extra thing gets added to the mix and seems to break everything. and lead to frustration and annoyance. all thoughts and ideas welcome... :)

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

I could never get CyberGraphix 4 (or any of the others) to work consistently. I have the 64/3D card and use Picasso96 + the Resolution guide on Amibay's site. Works fine on an A2/3/4000.  Look for version 2.1c of P96.

CGX4 is very stable from my experience and much better than P96. Especially with Phase 5 boards for obvious reasons.

It sounds like a hardware problem to me somewhere. Could be psu. That a4k is pretty loaded. I wonder what it would be like without the Indivision installed.

You can find the latest updates here: http://phase5.a1k.org/index.php?cgx

For me CGX worked always better than P96 for CV64/3D, but was there some issues with OS3.5/9 (or with something else, can't remember anymore)? At some point it was needed to use the very latest updates instead of original CD version or couple updates after it... anyway some issue was solved with those latest updates :) I'd recommend to try the latest versions before going for a too big work of reinstalling anything etc. You could also check all env variables and tooltypes for CGX, if there's some risky setting enabled.

I bet it is fhe version of cybergrafx.  I dont know what version I run, will check when I get home,  remember that the first few versions of 4 we very buggy.

Do you have the ram overclocked?

You certainly can try a different slot, would clean the slot and card also.

I used a Cybervision 643D in my A4000 for ages before installing a Mediator.  It worked great with CGX4, however my CGX4 CD came with an update on a floppy disk.
