I have here a Micronik A4000 ISA busboard with 7 Z3 slots !!
« on: January 25, 2004, 05:01:26 PM »
It does look very similar to this one and mine has also the lable "6960 Rev. 4.0". It came with my A4000 but I have never tried it because I have no tower (yet). The question is not : what can I put in those Zorro3 slots ? But the question is : what can I put in those ISA slots ???  :-?
Is this still a good busboard in these modern days of Mediators ??? I plan to put it on Ebay but first want to know if it's worth something from a hardware point of view ... give me your opinions please !!!

Nothing will work in the ISA slots just like on the stock board on a A2000/3000/4000 without a bridge card of some type. Its worthless these days. The extra ZIII slots are nice to have though if you plan to add ZIII cards. I think it has two Video slots as well instead of the normal one.

Yep, it does have two of those. Does this mean you can use two gfx cards at the same time ??? Two gfx card outputs + AGA output = 3 monitors ????

Maybe.  But, I think it's more likely to work with a Video Toaster, and a seperate video card, versus two RTG cards.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

The video slots are for scandoublers/flickerfixers/other hardware that wants the Amiga's custom chip generated video signal. You can use as many gfx boards as you have free zorro slots, providing they fit physically, as some video cards want an inline video / zorro-slot.

I asked the question about the gfx cards because when I added a CV64/3D to my A1200 PPC + Bvision that the computer refused to boot ...

The ISA slots will not work unless you have either a GG-Bridge, or bridgeboard card. Even then there is practically no drivers. With a ton of headaches you'd be lucky to get either a ISA serial port card, or ISA ethernet to work.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

So in other words, using ISA is only cool if you can get a cheap GoldenGate card and a free ISA ethernetcard ??
