Access to a 3D printer
« on: December 14, 2012, 07:19:56 PM »
Hello,

Does anyone here have access to a 3D printer?  I was wondering if anyone had case moulds for the existing plastic bodied Amigas.  For example one could re-print an existing shell in alternate colours, or with added ports or cut-outs.  I was loving the idea of the X500 and that sort of thing, but then started thinking about an A600 case - re-printed with the standard ATX back plate to house the FPGA Arcade.  Then, the front A4000 bezel re-printed with a USB header.  Etc. Etc...

Have thought about this myself, although don't have access to a 3d printer.

Next 3 to 5 years are going to be interesting with the way 3d printing is going, can't wait as I have some ideas and design software waiting :-)

Quite a few 3D printers won't be able to print A1200/A500 size cases.  At least the retail ones..
Maybe the A600 as its' quite a bit smaller.

But I heard recently that Staples is going to possibly be having 3D printing as a service...
Need a copy of the manual AND a new trapdoor cover?  Head down to Staples. ;-)

I recently purchased a 3D printer but am limited to a size approx. 6"x6"x6".

Larger assemblies of course can be made by attaching pieces together so their is potential for larger designs.....

I would love to print a small model of any of the Amiga models but have not been able to find any solid models of these..... I might try to reverse-engineer and scale something myself just for the fun of it.

You can always use Ponoko's 3D printing service.
