I've got a good reason to eat meat. It's tasty.
By all means, if you don't find it tasty, don't eat it, much like I don't drink whisky despite knowing that many many people find it awesome.
And also I think it is fair to want the meat to have been raised in non-cruel conditions, and to be slaughtered in a reasonable manner (I'm sure all slaughtering is less stress than being chased and killed by a lion though). Another benefit is that the meat tastes better, often far better.
Meat, of a high quality, free range or organic, in reasonable quantities, will beat out cheaper, lower quality, battery meat, in large quantities. But most people go for the latter.
And by supporting the free range meat products, you encourage more producers to switch to that model of food production. It's even better than avoiding it, and thus having no effect on things.
