Hi all, getting back into Amiga after a very long time.

Began restoring my old 1200 a couple of years ago at a leisurly pace and finally got it working a few weeks ago, everything seems to work apart from the floppy drive.

Machine is completely stock, with WB & Kickstart 3.0

Functional apart from floppy, which is plugged in but doesn't read disks.

I have a CF ide thing  in and managed to get workbench installed using WinUAE.

This works fine and I can boot to workbench on the real hardware and also boot the same card in WinUAE.

However, I can't seem to get anything to run on it.  I'm just trying HD installable apps and games and I'm hitting brick wall after brick wall.

I tried installing Syndicate (I tried several different ADF sets) installs fine, plays fine using WinUAE but fails to get past the bullfrog logo on the real hardware.

Several flavours of Frontier also totally fail to execute, I got various errors, one version (I think a modified CD32 version) I could get to run partially by altering the protection bit in shell but bombs out to a software error after agreeing to the terms and conditions "Y" (maybe I am in violation of them:D)

Octamed soundstudio - I can't even get the installer to run from within WinUAE!

Anyone know what i'm doing wrong or what could be broken? I've been looking for an idiots guide to installing the software from ADF using WinUAE but can only find stuff on installing workbench or WHDload (i'll be trying that at some point too)

In WinUAE select A1200 quickstart config, then add the CF as harddrive and change controller to IDE0. Now check if you still don't get the same problems as on the real A1200.

BTW, run HDToolbox, go to Partition Drive, Advanced Options and Change. There check that MaxTransfer is set to 0x1fe00. Do this for all partitions. If you enter a value into the MaxTransfer field, press enter to confirm it, otherwise the new value won't be saved.

Thomas, Thank you so much, works great now! Now I can run some old favourites I feel as if an old friend has been reborn:)

It was already set to IDE0 (not sure if you thought it would be set to the UAE disk?) but i tried that anyway with a new config as instructed, made no difference...

Then while booted within WinUAE I accessed HD toolbox and changed the settings as instructed for both partitions, did the trick. I think the values were 0x1f00000.

I used to have a 250mb pcmcia hard drive, but it was always unreliable (prob because it just drew all its power off the same weak PSU that powered the A1200?) so finally after nearly 20 years I have a 1200 with a hard drive. I'd forgotten how much frontier chugs on a stock 1200, fantastic:D

So I also have to thank you for helping me get the workbench install up and running (probably why I had the correct drive name)  because I frequently referenced your other posts on here to accomplish this... I'd have never worked it all out by myself but didn't want to cave and get a pre-installed card.

Wish i'd had the internet back in '93!
