OS 3.9 problem, please help
« on: January 24, 2004, 06:08:22 AM »
Ok I just reinstalled 3.9 and I just ran into a wierd problem I havent seen before. So far I have the CDFS working and a full install of 3.9, my Buddah/catweasel card and the libs for the CSPPC. When I boot into 3.9 it cat open resource.library when it attempts to so amidock can open. I looks in the libs dir and it in there, and I type version resource.library and it shows up as the correct version of 44.102 what the heck is the deal????? I need this fixed so I can go on.

Oh man, not this thing again :-)

I had an absolute *bitch* of a time installing 3.9. Anybody who ever complained about 3.5 should come to my place and see how utterly irritating 3.9 can be!

Anyway, I needed a totally clean install of 3.9 on a partition, with both boing bags.

It seems some classes/gadgets/ files aren't copied during installation. This causes the resource.library to fail.

In the end, I had to manually copy half of the stuff from the CD and it still doesnt work properly (after both boing bags), since several prefs programs refuse to run.

In short, 3.9 is good. But when it's bad, its very bad! The installation is just buggy it seems.

If you do a clean install of 3.9, go into the CD and copy the classes/gadgets/ from the CD yourself. Then hopefully you will get it to boot up without resource.library woes.

Next install the boing bags and see how it goes from there.

Good luck :-)

-edit-

Tip: Once you get it installed and working to your tastes, archive up the partition somewhere. It saves a lot of heartache ;-)

-/edit-

Incidentally, the system wouldnt do the cold reset trick after a bare 3.9 installation on my machine so that caused a whole bunch of problems for me.

I felt like changing the slogan to "Get B*ggered!"

Hi,

did you try to run SnoopDos to find out, which component resource.library needs?

When I start my Amiga without startup-sequence, I cannot open the resource.library too. Maybe the setpatch is not installed properly (What about "AmigaOS ROM Update" ?)

Greetings

I'm going to format and just try again I think. All I have done so far is installed 3.1 from disks. Then I installed the Buddah drivers that also install a version of cacheCDFS and it all came up great. Then I put in the 3.9 CD and selected upgrade over 3.0/clean drive. I am going to format again and make an emergency disk and see if I can get it to work with my IDE CD drive and format the drive again and install clean. Its a pain. I cant figure out why it fails. The only thing diffrent I did is use the cache CDFS instead of ASIM CDFS after installing 3.1

Here is what I need. I need an emergency disk that can access an IDE CD-ROM from a catweasel/buddah. If anyone can make one it would be a life saver!

Read the Karlos posting and do the comparison between your install and the AOS CD! I had the missing gadgets etc. syndrome also, after comparing and copying the missing suff it began to work.

VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ended up making a Emergency disk and then formated when I got into 3.9 from it. Its all good when you install to a clean hard disk!

Now that pain if installing all the Mediator stuff and getting the video card to work......

Well' I think an old install may have corrupted protection flags - at least I have had - which may prevent the installer to work as meant.
