Help Using a Large SD Card

I have found a number of tutorials for using a large hard drives and one tutorial for using a gb SD card in a real Amiga 1200. I have been unable to get either a 4gb or a 16 gb SD card to work using the tutorials. Both are Sandisk.
 
I can get them to show up in Win UAE but not on my A1200. In fact, it won't boot at all using the SD cards.

Try another IDE to cf card adapter because there a lot of bad ones about,how are you prepping the card?

Technically, cards of that size aren't "SD", but "SDHC". The IDE adapter you're using might not support SDHC.

I used diskpart to clean the MBR off the card.
 
On WinUAE with Classic Workbench, I replaced the SCSI.device, renamed the SCSI device name to uaehf.device and enable Smart File Format. I made the first partition below 600mb then made the other partitions and set them all up for SFS and deleted FFS. Then I formatted using SFSformat. Finally, I copied the system files of Classic workbench over to the first partition of the card.
 
Do I need to snip a pin somewhere. I've seen that mentioned.
 
Also, I heard CF cards were pretty finnicky.

trust me compact flash are the best no mucking about with uncompatible adapters and snipping pins(not needed) I see you have seen some youtube tuts some are good but to be honest it gets complicated when start renaming stuff you dont need to do that when partitioning SD or cf problems easily arise when trying to boot on a Amiga.
And download easeus partition home(free one) then you dont have to muck about with diskpart much simpler and all with the mouse, any help just ask.
And use Dopus to copy your winuae system to cf its bullet proof !

Did you set max transfer correctly on the sd?

If that is not the problem i would suspect the ide to sd adapter. They are not all created equal,wired correctly or even made well. If you are using a SDHC card your adapter must support SDHC also.

Its not so much a case of cf or sd being picky,some cards simply do not follow the standards correct. sandisk is usually a good bet to work if you didn't buy fake ones off ebay or somewhere.

Never had so little trouble or effortless fun with the amiga.

Id rather use decent Flash based PATA devices due to access time (I also hate spinup time).
So ill keep buying those damn PATA SSD's, but boy are they expensive sometimes :/
Next im getting a 128GB PATA SSD for my MorphOS Mac mini

It's getting more and more uncommon with PATA SSD (or any kind of PATA drive in general)
So im thinking of stocking up next year

I bought the pcmcia + CFCARD and the IDE adapter + CFCARD from Amikit and got zero problem (and the bundles even include EasyADF software).
both CFCARD are Sandisk Ultra 4 Gb (labelled 30MB/s)...
